A few questions. If Biafra become a reality, will Igbo become the official language or will it be English? Will you guys remain apart of ECOWAS and still have economic relations with surrounding ECOWAS nations? Or will you guys ditch that trading community? Also do you guys welcome Morocco into ECOWAS because Morocco's influence would diminish Nigeria's influence. Is that something you guys want for a Biafra to exist?

I can see English being an official language alongside the other 13 indigenous languages of Biafra (including Igbo).

I can see Biafra remaining a part of ECOWAS if it means greater access to trade and freedom of movement with the West African community. However, given how proximate Biafra is to Central Africa, it'll make sense for us to form linkages with that community too. Even if it means incentivizing French language instruction to tap into that regions markets. There are Biafrans in DR Congo selling auto parts anyway.

We would welcome Morocco :youngsabo:

Morocco joining ECOWAS would NOT be good at all for Nigeria. But what do you think will be the big effects?

Also good post.

It'll continue the waning of Nigeria's influence on the regional and continental stage. It'll be better for us because I can imagine Nigeria continually trying to undermine us for decades to come. Nigeria's internal contradictions will lead to its self-immolation - so having external factors pushing will hasten that process. Nigeria already conceded the region to France following its debacles with Boko Haram and Chad. Nigeria's military is now known to be a former shadow of itself.

The big effects is that Europeans will military/economically dominate West Africa. However, when Nigeria was in charge - not much happened aside from interventions in the Rice Coast (Liberia, Sierra Leone) and expulsions of Ghanaians. Nigerian leadership won't be sorely missed.

:yeshrug:

Of course, the collapse of Nigeria will lead to a massive economic downgrade of West Africa, a massive refugee crisis and increasing Islamic fundamentalism in Hausaland...:ehh:

But what about Ghana who is doing good economically so far and is a non-French speaking country? And yeah, Nigeria's military has been severely weakened.

Look, Morocco should NEVER be admitted into ECOWAS.

The Igbo leaders in the East do not see the forest for the trees. They don't realize the pull they have in Nigeria and are playing the game backwards. A well defined and integrated 20 yr economic Eastern regional development plan would give the region so much leverage at the federal gov't would have to make serious concessions.

We live in a highly globalized world at the moment with global capital and global labour. These Eastern leaders need to think outside the box.

The eastern region of Nigeria would need to develop to a point of self sufficiency before trying for Biafra. If Biafra were to crop up tomorrow, economically it would be challenged. Industry is still very nascent in what would be Biafra. The nation would be at the whim of international forces and the new Nigeria would be trying to undermine every attempt for Biafra to progress.

There isn't even a united Eastern movement in current Nigeria. Biafra would just inherit the same systematic structures of current Nigeria but without the political, economic or diplomatic standing of Nigeria.

Before Biafra can be realized, the East and the South in Nigeria have to be lockstep in their political and economic infrastructure. Right now they are miles far from that.

To add to that, the Nigeria 2.0 and Biafra would be the setting for a proxy war between the West and Russia/China.

Case:

Biafra secedes. Nigeria 2.0 will try to undermine it. Nigeria 2.0, as a construct of the British will receive support from the West (remember the powers that be). Well, Biafra will look for support (both financial and militarily) outside of the Western bloc aka China and Russia.

West learns that Russia and China are supporting Biafra and all of a sudden we have a proxy war in that region. Lives are lost and then the economic devastation of war in upon us. Oh, by the way, how will a newly formed Biafra fund this war? Well Biafra can sell of it's natural resources for pennies on the dollar because it really has no reserves of its own (we already know Nigeria 2.0 would keep the oil reserves).

I'm from Rivers which would technically be in Biafra. I understand the plight of the Igbos (my mother is Igbo) but I do not think at this moment Biafra would be the solution. It'd be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. The east needs to first get it's house in order, from there, move to restructuring through sound policy.

I took one of those DNA test, and my results show that my ancestors more than likely originated from Nigeria. Will definitely be reading more up on the country.

You don’t understand Igbo politics, my friend. Our current leadership elite and Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo (of course, you wouldn’t know what that is) supports ‘One Nigeria’.
