They’re in a weird spot. They peaked with a championship, lost to the Celtics the following season, then just extended all their guys and added Westbrook. They did nothing to get better, and guys that they extended would be the ones they’d need to include in deals if they wanted to make moves.

A byproduct of Jokic being too good.

If he was just your average superstar, they probably would've made a more concerted effort to amend the holes left by KCP and Brown, thinking they could just plug them with the players they drafted, and now they're getting hit with the reality of those players don't grow on trees. They thought just having Jokic and surrounding him with whomever would be enough to compete.

The worst thing now is that MPJ's contract is still iimmovable for at least another year.

This is a product of GM and a coach not getting along together

Malone wants proven players on his team

Booth wants the coach to play his drafted players to make him look like he was the genius behind that team throughout the years, but those recently drafted players are not great.

The thing about this year is Malone is going to have to play those young players now. So, we will find out if Booth was right about these young guys.

It all comes back to the MPJ contract. There was zero reason to give him that contract when they did. I don't understand why these teams don't want to negotiate and freely piss away their cap flexibility.

Their cap flexibility wouldn’t have mattered anyways as they still would have had to Murray and Gordon while giving Jokic his supermax. People keep overlooking that important detail wjen blaming the MPJ contract.

They would have been in the same boat regardless under this new CBA.

Yeah, the Nuggets are washed.

Sure there are 80 games left but even big performances from Jokic aren't enough, it was telling of two tales, the past few seasons' performances like that would normally lead to a Nugget victory, had Norman Powell, a good player no doubt, looking like prime Jordan :mjlol:

Their roster is badly constructed and it's like what some of you've been saying, they have about 2-3 bad contracts on their payroll and they fell into that trap where they thought Jokic greatness is all that matters regardless of whatever players are standing next to him, letting key players go as if it meant nothing.

I expect guys like Russ and AG to become trade pieces before the deadline. I think Westbrook knows his time there is going to be short; you can see it in his facial expression last night. I feel like them signing Gordon to that extension was really to set up a trade for the future, not because they love the guy and want him there for the next 4 years.

You see what Houston did with Jalen? That’s a win win. Player gets a player option. Team gets a lower number and if he does pop, they can resign him.
:whoo:
Unless you are truly a “special” first contract, high draft pick player, GMs should use that contract as a model.
