Those short and intermediate throws worked against squads like LSU and Clemson (when he was allowed to actually play drives in that game). Did his thing against Ole Miss. What you're referencing is what a game manager does, he makes the throws needed to open the running game up. As evident by how we had an elite running game, that plan worked. Etling absolutely failed to do that against Alabama and was largely worthless in the Auburn game up until the last drive. I didnt watch the Florida game but statistically it seems like he did aight.

All Im giving you is that based on what we already seen, the gameplan of trying to make Etling make enough right throws and hoping running the ball wins the day is a failed scheme for LSU. That's all Im tryin to say

That's not all the way true, we still was playing a pro style offense when Miles left and the offense was made for a QB with a big arm. The offense was originally made for Brandon Harris who has a big arm. Etling not perfect but he was not playing in an offense that suited him, he doesn't have a big arm. If he played in AU system his number would have been way better. He actually fits Matt Canada's offense much more if yu go by what he was able to do with Nathan Peterman. Peterman and Etling are basically identical players.

I don't think Etling is goin to be great but if he's not a liability this year than I'll take it.

Btw a lot of people think Coach O is banning media because of the offense and that might be true but I think it has a lot to do with the defense as well. Aranda said he never implemented his defense till the very last game against Louisville. He basically played a vanilla defense and let the talent do the work. We're goin to have a different defense this year as well

I see where you coming from, I aint gonna front and act like Etling couldn't be made to be servicable by a QB guru that's good enough. I just dont think hes gonna actually be the way if yall plan on being elite or something this particular year

If J.T was the best QB in the Big 10 last year, then thats a pretty clear indication of QBs as a whole in that conference then
I wouldnt be surprised to see Speights was #2 right behind him
