Bernie is an interesting case.

At the time of his retirement, no one felt he was a Hall of Famer. Then everyone said the PED users were out, so if you're going to eliminate those guys, there really aren't very many players left from that era that out-produced Bernie Williams.

You don't know how much postseason success factors into a guy's HOF argument but Bernie's playoff numbers are among the best ever.
An .850 OPS when you have 121 playoff games is amazing. That part of his resume shines a lot.

There are levels even within the Hall of Fame. Guys like Willie Mays are not the FLOOR of the Hall of Fame, so Bernie doesn't need to be as good as him to belong. But when you elect someone like Jim Rice, I'm not sure Bernie Williams is really any different.
