so the mets owner has monoply money
As suspect as Murakami seems, this ain't to say teams should allow the Dodgers to scoop him up. He's still young, has elite power and good on base skills. Thankfully, he doesn't really fit their roster anyway.
I feel like Pete signs with whoever gives him 6 years at $27MM+ AAV signs him. Im not so sure Stearns would be willing to go there especially if he insists on being a 1B entirely. The defensive numbers have always been bad despite him being good at picks and you have to hope he doesn't crater physically lol. He's already one of the slowest runners.
He still got a good 3-4 years i think, so im not sure I wouldn't make that deal but id only feel way more comfortable with that if we could move Nimmo, who i still like, but whose defense and overall athleticism is falling off badly.
These numbers move you, but you hate Grisham and his 811 OPS and saw the most pitches on the teamNot worried about it. His floor is low but the ceiling is someone who is ideal for our park.
Even with that .188 avg he had a .768 OPS because he sees pitches. If he was 29-30 he wouldn’t be appealing but he’s entering his prime years.
Come 2026 WBC assuming he plays, he’s gonna remind everyone how he plays in big spots.

I doubt Stearns would want to have both with even if you think Soto is a DH by the end of their contracts. It's probably one or the other. I don't even think Murakami is gonna be as good as Pete there since I've seen him described as worst than Devers was at 3rd but who knows. As long as he's a better defensive player than Pete Alonso and can get more than 20 home runs, I wouldn't mind the Mets making a run at him. Move Pete to DH and let the new guy handle the defense.
I'm concerned about his numbers against velocity, but he puts up numbers and I haven't read anything about slow bat speed. If the scouts think he's worth the money, I'll give him a chance
Than the dodgers will keep winning over themJust cause I could spend 100 million on something doesn't mean I want to spend 100 million on it.
Pete is a great guy and the best homegrown Met since David Wright. He will own every offensive record if he retires a Mets, until Soto breaks them, but he's that old running back who wants to get paid like the quarterback.
They offered him a 7 year deal 2 years ago and he turned it down. He ended up having a shytty walk year and after going through free agency only got a 2 year deal. Nobody wanted to give him that long term deal he wanted. Now it's a year later, he's a year older and he plays 1st. He won a silver slugger, but all of the flaws are still there. Why give him 7 years (just throwing that number out) when nobody else will go over 4? They did the same with deGrom. They had a number of years and Texas went over it. He ended up missing most of the first 2 seasons.
I'm less concerned with money, because Cohen has a lot, but I'm glad they are standing firm on years. His game isn't going to get better as he gets older. He should have taken the first deal. Juan Soto could turn down great deals on the basis of betting on yourself. It turns out, Pete can't really do that
The Dodgers are a bit more fragile than people are willing to admit.
Going into 2026,
Freddie Freeman is 36.
Mookie Betts is 33.
Max Muncy is 35.
Tommy Edman is 30.
Teoscar Hernandez is 33.
Edman, Hernandez and Betts are really trending poorly.
Freeman is still hanging on, but who knows how much longer you can rely on a 36 year old guy to play at an high level?
I think they absolutely are going to make a strong push to get Kyle Tucker because they need an outfielder and he's a substantial upgrade in the lineup over guys like Teoscar and Kike.

The Dodgers are still a great team in large part because of their depth of pitching.I think everyone is willing to admit that, that super team thing is nonsense. They Angels status without the Japs

It would take probably 5-6 of the Dodgers' top prospects to get Paul Skenes. Its cool
we gonna develop a couple of our prospects/players… kim. de paula. Hope
and then bring in ronald acuña in a couple years
in the meantime… we getting kwan at the deadline
as far as pitching goes… we still got sheehan who 25 and then we’ll bring in skenes to make us a bit “younger”
