5 games to go and Aaron Judge has a 7 point lead on the batting title with 49 homers. The list of guys to hit 50 long balls and win the batting title in the same year is as follows:

Not in total homers, but there’s no justifying a guy getting the mvp when he’s hitting .245 on the year. Roger Maris at .269 is the only mvp winner to hit below .270 while judge has an ops that’s currently 180 points higher. Judge’s average is 60 points higher and his OBP is 93 points higher. If McGwire didn’t get it while hitting 70 homers with 140+ RBI’s and an ops above 1.200 then we need to accept that the precedent of total home runs doesn’t decide that on its own.
Traditional points suggest Judge. But, position/power rarity top 3 in HR/R/RBIs also I think he's top 5 in OPS as well. The writers are probably going to give it to Raleigh.

Doing that, as an elite defensive catcher, and as a switch hitter...is absolutely unprecedented, all while leading a playoff race....stop thinking this is just homers

I think Raleigh gets mvp over judge because of the narrative and voter fatigue. Catchers tend to have more of the intangibles that writers adore like the game calling aspect. If he hits 63 hr then it’s 100% his. MVP isn’t the best player award so it’s not always about stats otherwise judge would win hands down.
