It's the damn time limit.
Luffy needs a technique that lets him hang with these monsters from the new world without the limitations. Maybe we will see it later on as his character progresses.
I doubt he can imitate the gears. I thought that was just Luffy 'rubberizing' his body to increase his blood flow, speed, and agility.
For whatever reason, everyone seems to be able to do more with their devil fruit than Luffy.
Dude always seems to have dynamite with him. Maybe it will be revealed that he has a devil fruit. Something like The Jimmy no Walk-Walker fruit?

Dogtooth can do the same thing as luffy, but i doubt he can do gears. ONLY reason luffy can do gears is cause his body is rubber and he can use it to pump blood and it keeps his heart from exploding..

Luffy G4 would have lost if it wasn't for Nami weakening Cracker's soldier with water and Cracker still fought him for like 16 hours straight
Doflamingo's attacks just bounced off G4 while Cracker actually managed to slice through his arm.
