Luffy is clearly contracting his limbs and using his elasticity to give his attacks extra force.

Can you believe this arc started in Feb 2012? Shyt's been going for over two years. Part of it is the length of the arc but part of it is just breaks.

His Gear 2nd stance was partially modeled after that as well.

At first I thought it was a bit silly, but once he went to work on Doffy I was sold

I'm still a bit confused as to what he actually did to initiate the Gear though

There are pretty reasonable explanations for G2 and G3, but what did he actually do to his body this time? Maybe I just didn't understand the translation well enough
