From Kevin Iole(Yahoo Sports) twitter

Breaking: HBO decides it is no longer doing business with Golden Boy. Story coming soon on @YahooSports.
i'd love to know the real story behind the Golden Boy/HBO fallout since last year.

Is it because GB didn't like HBO Sports since Ross Greenburg got fired/bounced? Is it because Showtime just ponied up & wants to deal with GB only? Is it because Top Rank ponied up & wants to deal with Top Rank exclusively?

Been on phone with @HBOboxing this morning. They have announced they will no longer be doing business with @GoldenBoyBoxing. That's big.

HBO made it clear they dont have same business philosophy as Golden Boy anymore. No more Broner, BHop, Thurman, Seth Mitchell, fights, etc

Big Dan also reporting this...

wtf...i hope we get the real details. "don't have the same business philosophy"??

don't see how this can just be about philosophies when GB has nothing but star fighters.

maybe GB is one who really said adios to HBO...but HBO is coming out with it first to save face.

What HBO's decision does it put in black/white what we've all known: Showtime is closed shop to GB fights and HBO has TR and everyone else.

danrafaelespn Dan Rafael
HBO is going to focus on guys like Ward, Golovkin, Bradley, Donaire, Martinez, etc... #boxing

danrafaelespn Dan Rafael
It will be interesting to see if GB, without HBO, can build Broner into a PPV attraction. #boxing

If Broner-Malignaggi happens, it means it'll be on Showtime, by the way.

I believe it goes back to 2010 when they were trying to put a fight together between Floyd and Pac, but Schafer kept lying saying that no negatiations were taking place calling Arum and Greenberg liars and that they should take lie detector tests.Relationships been sour ever since then

i wonder if Pac/Mayweather not happening is what got Greenburg fired by HBO in 2011.

He's at NBC Sports now, but he practically helped build HBO Sports into what it is today. Damn.

this and this.

philosophy? so you mean to tell me that HBO is now going to be integrous with its matchmaking? they are going to stop the biased commentating? lol. Gotta be deeper than philosophies. It has something to do with working relationship and ideology when it comes to delivering the fights the network needs WHEN it wants them. Not enough dates to share evenly between promoters. The dates are hurting fight negotiations.

With Showtime making power moves such as the FMJ deal and NBC Sports in the fold, not to mention all the other lil side networks....HBO needs GBP much more than the other way around I say.

Boxing aint dead yet, but politics are killing it.

:damn:

you damn skippy.....this is at VERY least in part due to Pac/Mayweather fight not being made on that network at its most profitable time. When has the #1 and 2 fighters in the world had a chanced to be matched together? When will it happen again? THe expected richest fight in history and it doesnt come off. Better believe its a lot of fallout behind that and the boat is still rocking. There is a lot of blame to throw around for the fight not coming off and its not just one incident that led to this. You better believe not cashing in on a fight that had reached its highest point of interest and now will never take place (at least not with the same hype and mystique) has probably led to some many threats of litigation, personal threats of asswhippin's or worse.
