Complacent is a really good word for it.
I wish Showtime had HBO's commentating team.
truthfully, Showtime has been kicking HBO's ass for some time now and gradually putting on their share of PPV. HBO is the epitome of a Time Warner company. The M/O is to give the consumer less for more. Showtime was giving us more for less. I mean you could have two great fighters on Showtime fighting for $1.25 mil each. Then you would have some contracted fighter that HBO invested in (cough....Berto) getting $1.75 mil while his opponent was getting $350k. The numbers right there should tell you something.
Greenburg saw it coming, he knew the jig was up when Showtime snatched up Pac vs Mosley. Their conjunction with CBS allowed them to reach a much broader audience and essentially pull in 1.3 ppv buys in a fight where Shane Mosley admitted that he went into survival mode so as not to get knocked out. In fact, Mosley had asked Naazim to stop the fight and Naazim wouldnt let Mosley go out like that. It was a mismatch of highest proportions....but Showtime just took a page out of HBO book on that one. HBO wanted that fight but I think Showtime's deal was more attractive.
