We are never getting that before he retires. You could forget about that
If he had any interest in taking on tougher opponents he would have done so before age 30. And he would have gotten just as big a payday, in fact numerous of them, if he took on his rivals that he's successfully avoided all these years.
This idea that a certified boxing cashcow somehow won the lottery by electing to fight a content creator, is a joke. Hed have made that regardless if he fought a real opponent.
You're right, we're never getting the fights we truly want from Tank. However, there is absolutely no way Tank would get the same bag for fighting Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez that he would fighting Jake Paul.
It's perfectly reasonable to be disappointed at Tank for not fighting top tier competition but none of those guys are house hold names or stars inside or outside of the ring. Jake Paul is a LEGIT Star and house hold name in the REAL WORLD not just among hardcore boxing fans.
Shakur and Devin both being black also hurts the marketing of those fights because there's no tribalism aspect to sell. It's why Floyd has consistently tied to fight Mexicans or other ethnicities during the second half of his career when he was in the Money Mayweather era.
There's a reason why Tank and PBC wanted him to fight Lomachenko last year. That was a bigger fight than Shakur, Devin or Teofimo.....the tribalism aspect along with Loma having a title would have made it the biggest fight in the sport. Loma didn't want the fight though. He chose to fight Kambosos and then retire.
Ultimately the risk/reward factor for fighting a Haney or Shakur never added up for PBC for Shakur and a lot of these guys.
I attend a lot of fights and sit on press row. I get official attendance numbers sent to me directly from promoters
Davis-Martin did 13,249 fans.
Official attendance at Michelob ULTRA Arena for Lopez vs. Ortiz: 6,206.
That Shakur-De Los Santos fight did like 5000 fans. No joke
I do think Haney had a chance to get the Tank fight before Shakur.
The Pacquiao Barrios fight did 13,107.
Honestly, don't be surprised if Tank fights Pacquaio and I told everyone at PBC that's the fight that needs to happen......because it's a big money fight for both.
Obviously I'd like to see Tank fight Shakur, Haney, Teo.......but this is a business and ultimately in the eyes of PBC, those guys are going to have to bring something to the table if they're not willing to sign with Uncle Al.
