Sergio Martinez Prefers Cotto Over Chavez Jr. Rematch
By Jhonny Gonzalez

WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez is not too sure of a fight rematch with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Dallas, Texas. On Saturday in Las Vegas, Martinez dominated Chavez for eleven rounds and survived a late knockdown to win a twelve round unanimous decision before 19,000 fans at the Thomas & Mack Center. Chavez's promoter, Bob
Arum of Top Rank, wants to stage a rematch next year in Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

Martinez has some issues with the location, because he believes Chavez takes advantage of the governing rules of the local commission. Martinez would prefer to face junior middleweight Miguel Cotto at a catch-weight. Cotto challenges WBA "regular" champion Austin Trout on December 1.

"Bob Arum suggested a rematch with Julio, in Dallas, in the American football stadium of the Cowboys, with 60,000 people and pay-per-view. But [I'm not sure about that]. There, Chávez does whatever he wants when it comes to the rules....regarding the doping [tests] and things like that - they are less rigorous [in Texas]....let's put it that way. They are less demanding than [the commission] in Nevada. My personal preference, I would like to fight with Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. It would be a good fight if we reach an agreement on the weight limit," Martinez said.

Chavez Jr Suffers Broken Cheek & Orbital Bones

@maravillabox , @jcchavezjr1 The medical tests have revealed Julio Chavez Jr. suffering "malar bone fracture (cheekbone) and orbit" , which is going to prevent him from training in the coming months and will likely need surgery in the coming days.

The malar bone is located at the level of the cheek and that makes it prominent cheekbone. Also part of the floor and lateral wall of the orbit, which is the cavity that holds and protects the eyeball. At fracture, can cause a flattening of the cheek, limited mouth opening, and if they commit the orbital walls can produce drop eyeball double vision and commitment of the muscles that move the eye. Sometimes these symptoms are masked by post-traumatic inflammation and only become apparent a few days later when the swelling down. These symptoms should be treated surgically to avoid leaving important functional and aesthetic sequelae.

I knew chavez took some punishment but got damn. maravilla did a margarito on him. dude might not ever be the same. I knew that eye had to be seriously messed up the way it looked after the fight.

"I will break jr's face a thousand times"

“Take a picture of [Chavez] now because after the fight, you will not recognize him"

Arum is obsessed with Cowboys Stadium.

Cotto's fight in December against Austin Trout should be easy money. Hope Martinez & Cotto can come to an agreement for next spring!!!

Yep. Like I said this idea of a rematch is simply Arum looking to make the highest profit off his boy Chavez because honestly, after he was exposed by martinez who really is dying to watch him fight? He got exposed as a mediocre fighter who only advantage is gaming the weight system. Also, we already know why he wants the match at Cowboy Stadium (Texas) :shaq2: .The rematch is his most profitable fight at the moment.

Sergio on the other hand will be just fine fighting someone else who is probably more skilled and a bigger name.

 @ a cotto fight. Though I would pick a ward (which is unlikely to happen due to weight...) or a canelo fight first.

Hmm is Martinez ducking that fade from Canelo though :youngsabo:

The only fight i can see Martinez droppin to 154 for is vs Floyd. Anyone else they gunna have to move up to 160 or at catchweight.

The last 2 Canelo fights have been hard to tell if hes worked on his stamina or not as they been so 1sided as thats really the only thing thats an issue with him

Floyd said he would fight him if he can make 150 NOT 154.... yea strange right??

If Sergio says he'd fight Cotto at 154 there shouldn't be a problem :obama:
