This is the same guy who fought Macklin, Darren Barker, and Dzin consecutively right?

He's 37, but shyt it's not like he's been boxing all his life or has accumulated a lot of damage, why you tryna cash him out so quick?

He took those fights because nobody else wanted to face him. Now the he finally had a big money fight he has some leverage to negotiate with other price fighters.

Wouldn't mind an unification match against Geale but I've been wanting to watch Sergio vs Floyd for more than a year and he finally has at least a chance to get that fight. The sooner that thing can happen, the better imo.

-Geale holds 2 belts
-GGG just looked INCREDIBLE in his HBO debut
-Kid-Chocolate (whom I'm assuming wins here) has been showcased plenty of times on US tv, retired Winky too
-Pirog has been off US tv for a minute, but we still remember him ruining rising star Danny Jacobs in embarrassing fashion

Why drain him to 154 when both divisions have sorting out to do...

He fought them because he had to...he is now at a level where he won't and shouldn't be fighting dudes who can't bring big money and PPV buys to the table.
Martinez has proven he is a warrior already, right now it is business first and he is going to be focused on big name oppenents that can guarantee him big money.
And with his age he has to make every fight count for something especially with his style that is not one that is condusive to dudes pushing 40.

Gotta love that Cotto vs Austin Trout is being called a tune up.

I'd like to see Cotto vs Canelo, too bad for Martinez but that's a better matchup.

i'm in minority but i think his style is great for his age. his style is based on using pure stamina and not strength and power. he doesnt wing big shots or try to use any strength. everything is literally pure aerobic activity through an entire fight.

he makes his opponent use huge amounts of energy just to chase him throughout a fight. but since he trains for pure stamina and not power and strength, he always has an pre built advantage over fighters that dont train for this kind of fight and have more muscle and use up more power and strength just to move around.

as far as an ability to that preform kind of aerobic capacity for his age.... lungs dont get old

nah i root against him because he has stamina issues and he's not fighting the best fighters in his division even though he's a champ
thank you! the dude gets gassed after 6 rounds, and as crisp as he may be throwing, his head movement isn't great.

Remember this Sergio interview a year ago when he went in? :lolbron:
Will you watch the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito rematch as a fan or as a scout for a new opponent?

I could be fighting either one of them, but I hope Margarito wins. I will say it again: I hope Margarito wins, because I know he wouldn't have any problem fighting me, which is something Cotto won't do. Cotto doesn't want to face me. He will make excuses about the money, or about this or that day not being good for him, or about not liking the color of my socks -- anything -- I don't know. Lately he has been saying that the money is too short. I have to tell Cotto that if all he cares about is money, then I promise to hand over my purse to him if he wins, no problem. I can sign on that, anytime and anyplace. But I know Cotto is afraid of fighting me, no matter what he says. It's all excuses. If he is the champion he used to be, or the champ he believes he is, he wouldn't have any problem facing me. But obviously now any excuse is good for him.

Real Talk, after seeing what happened to Dawson with the whole "Yeah I can fight at 168 blah blah etc..." and then turning around only to look and fight like some weight drained zombie, I really don't want to see Martinez move down in weight to fight anybody.

If cats want to fight for the middleweight title they need to move up. Sure Martinez and his people say they can make 154 but I don't believe them. Sergio is a lot thicker and more muscular now than he was a couple years ago. I also remember him bytching about having to make 158lbs for the P-Will rematch. If he complaining about making 158, I know he ain't trying to make 154lbs.

Best case scenario
Geale and GGG fight each other and the winner fights Martinez

Re-watching that Martinez Chavez fight, I wish Martinez would have double jabbed more. I'm even more sure now that if they rematch he cruises to an easy UD, Chavez doesn't have the skills to make the adjustments necessary and Martinez already has him figured out to the T.
