Oscar Valdez vs. Nonito Donaire Could Be Next, Says Arum

By Steve Kim

The last time we saw Nonito Donaire, he lost his WBO super bantamweight title to Jessie Magdaleno on the night of November 5th on the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas pay-per-view undercard at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

'The Filipino Flash' has spoken openly about wanting a rematch, but his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has other ideas. Arum would like to match Donaire against WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (21-0, 19KOs), who is one of Top Rank's up and coming future stars.

"That's a great fight for Donaire and it's a fight that we look to make for the first three months of the year. It would be Donaire at 126 fighting against Oscar Valdez,"Arum told BoxingScene.com.

donaire-valdez_2.jpg

Valdez captured the WBO featherweight title over the summer by stopping Matias Rueda in two rounds and then made the first defense of that belt on the Pacquioa-Vargas card by halting Japanese challenger, Hiroshige Osawa, in seven.

Donaire is a former featherweight champion himself. He captured the WBA title by stopping Simpiwe Vetyeka in May of 2014, but in his first defense - in October of the same year - he was knocked out when he went down swinging in the fifth round against the much larger Nicholas Walters, who not long after that fight went up to super featherweight - while Donaire dropped back to 122.

As for who would televise this potential match-up, Arum made it clear - "Nobody has to buy anything. We are fully capable of doing our own fights. If that fight appeals to HBO they'll buy it. If it doesn't appeal to them - they wont buy it. But that's a decision that a buyer always has to make. But whether they do buy it or don't buy it, that fight's going to happen.''

Edwin Valero Film 'El Inca' - Pulled From Theaters By Court Order

By Elisinio Castillo

As BoxingScene.com reported last month, the motion picture "El Inca," premiered in Venezuela on November 25.

The movie details the tragic story of two division world champion Edwin Valero, who was viewed as a potential superstar and he was being groomed by Top Rank and Teiken for a pay-per-view fight with Manny Pacquiao.

But the motion picture has been hit by a serious problem. A local court in Venezuela ordered the immediate suspension of the film, confirmed the director.

Venezuelan director Ignacio Castillo Cottin revealed that Judge Salvador Mata Garcia issued, as a "precautionary measure" - an order to remove the film from local cinemas.

The injunction was issued in response to an appeal filed by the relatives of Valero, who allege that the film violates his "honor and private life".

Castillo Cottin and producer Nathalie Sar-Shalom said in a statement that "El Inca" is a film "based on a public figure and notorious facts." They assured that his life was documented and reviewed with "diverse visions" on the rise and fall of the sport idol. Cottin stressed that after weeks of showcasing the movie to the public "El Inca" became the first Venezuelan film "censored and taken from theaters."

In a statement, the brother of Valero said the family disagreed with the film and said that the production showed the boxer "as a delinquent and omits his success in the world of boxing."

Valero, known as "El Inca", won all 27 of his fights by knockout. He was a sympathizer for late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez and had a huge tattoo of Chavez on his chest.

Valero last fought in February 2010. That same year, in April, he was arrested by the police as the alleged murderer of his wife, Carolina. A day later prison officers found him hanging in his cell, which officials ruled a suicide.

Valero held the WBA super featherweight title from 2006 to 2008, and the WBC lightweight title from 2009 to 2010. Valero started boxing at the age of 12 and compiled an amateur record of 86–6 with 57 knockouts. He was a Venezuelan national amateur champion three years running, as well as a Central and South American champion.

On February 25, 2006, Valero set a new world record by winning his first 18 fights first round knockout, breaking Arthur Susskind's historic record set in 1905. That record has since been broken by Tyrone Brunson, but most boxing experts do not acknowledge Brunson's claim due to the extremely poor level of opposition he faced. In contrast to Valero's opponents, just one of Brunson's 19 opponents had a winning record, and 6 had failed to win a single fight in their careers.

One of the biggest hurdles in Valero's career, was the aftermath of his motorcycle accident on February 5, 2001. Valero fractured his skull and had surgery to remove a blood clot.

After his twelfth pro fight, Valero signed with Golden Boy Promotions. That deal fell apart after he failed an MRI due to brain scan irregularities in New York and because of that he was not allowed to fight in the United States. His career progressed outside of the U.S., until he was able to present enough medical evidence to get cleared to fight in Texas on March 25, 2008.

Outside of the ring, Valero struggled with substance abuse, alcohol abuse and violent temper. His wife was hospitalized for injuries on numerous occasions, but she always claimed her ailments were due to some accident.

On April 18, 2010, Valero was arrested after police found the body of his 24-year-old wife, Carolina, in a hotel in the city of Valencia, Carabobo. Valero allegedly admitted to hotel security and police that he had murdered his wife. The following day he was found hanging in his prison cell, by his pants.

Is it fuked up I still laugh at this :deadmanny: :mjlol:

But JMM needs to stop being delusional because Pac was robbed & clearly won the first the fight. The 2nd was far from a robbery & was very close. The 3rd I thought JMM won but wasn't a robbery either.

Thlught Marquez won the first, draw the 2nd, and lost the 3rd imo. Regardless of how you scored the 1sr one, the way he mythologically came back was :wow:

That would've been a dope fight but idk..... valero seems like a stylistic nightmare. Broner would test that foo's chin tho.

I guess...but the best opponent Valero ever faced was Antonio DeMarco.

I would've welcomed that challenge from Valero at 135 so that AB could've had another soul crushed W over a name:blessed:

Valero was nice, but anyone who's the same size as AB loses to him imo:yeshrug:

Fam, how on earth could you score the first fight for JMM? JMM won more rounds than him but do you actually think he swept from round 3-12?
