J. Mayweather: Pacquiao is a Gatekeeper, He Won't Beat Crawford!

By Edward Chaykovsky

Trainer Jeff Mayweather, who is the uncle of retired former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., shook his head at the recently announced fight between WBO welterweight world champion Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten Australian Olympian Jeff Horn.

The fight is scheduled for April 22, likely in Australia, and Horn is a huge underdog in the contest.

"It’s just a cash out. A guy whose most significant win is Randall Bailey, that speaks volumes right there because at the end of the day, Pacquiao fought maybe ten guys that are past the level of Randall Bailey and we’re talking a prime Randall Bailey, not the Randall of old," Jeff told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

crawford-pacquiao_6.jpg

Jeff's nephew, Floyd Mayweather, won a twelve round decision over Pacquiao in May of 2015. The Filipino superstar returned last year with decision wins over Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas.

Fans were hoping to see Pacquiao face WBO, WBC junior middleweight world champion Terence Crawford. Jeff is not giving Pacquiao any shot of beating Crawford. He feels Pacquiao is now a gatekeeper who is good enough to beat the B-level fighters, but at the same time he's no longer good enough to beat A-level opponents like Crawford or undefeated rising welterweight star Errol Spence.

"I think that Terence Crawford is a very big guy. People that don’t know him or haven’t seen him or stood next to him, they don’t realize how big he is. I think that he’s a fighter that’s on the way up and he’s getting better and better with each fight. I think Pacquiao is basically now just a gatekeeper. The guys who are not at the top echelon he will probably beat, but the guys who are hot like Errol Spence or Terence Crawford, he’s not going to beat those guys," Jeff said.

I surely would love to see if this is true or not:whoo:

But with Team Pacquiao demanding $20 mill guaranteed to fight certain guys, while only wanting $4 million guaranteed for lesser opponents, I think that speaks more to what Team Pacquiao knows about those particular guys and their talent levels:francis:

We'll never see Pacquiao vs Crawford or a top tier PBC fighter it seems:wow:

Interesting to me how the Netherlands so good in kickboxing but they are pretty much nowhere to be found in boxing... :ehh:
The talent is there...
When I lived there I asked my Dutch friends about this they said boxing isn't that popular among youth there, rather kickboxing or MMA. It's a pity... :yeshrug:

you're right Dutch fighters kinda ruled K-1... Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, Remy Bonjasky, Zimmermann, Badr Hari, Alistair Overeem, Semmy Schilt, Gökhan Saki...

Not all of these are Dutch born or still fighting out fro there but all of them came from the Dutch system.
Hoost, Bonjasky and Spong are Surinamese-Dutches
Zimmermann is from Curacao
Hari is a Moroccoan descent
Saki is Turkish descent
Schilt, Verhoefen and Aerts are white dudes all born in the Netherlands if I know it right

I watched K-1 in its golden era, HW was filled with talent
yeah that is odd. I've wondered that myself since there have been kickboxers who have started in kickboxing and became very successful in boxing. Holly Holm Vitali Klitschko for one.
Dutch kickboxing is no joke. Ramon Dekkers used this system and made some noise in muay thai which is notoriously hard to do in Thailand for a foreigner
Hoost is possibly the GOAT k-1 fighter next to schilt and has probably the best chopping leg kicks of any fighter.
Holzken is killing it in Glory and is one of the most complete fighters in the game. Trains at the Mayweather gym too to round things off.
Andy Souwer is a 2 time k-1 champ
Peter Aerts like Schilt and Francisco Filho came from a kyokushin karate background and adapted to the game.

true though HW back then was STACKED in K-1

Adrien Broner: Make Numbers Right - I'll Fight Burns in The UK

By Edward Chaykovsky

Former four division world champion Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) is prepared to pack up his luggage and fly over to the UK for a showdown with Ricky Burns (41-5-1, 14 KOs) - if the money is right.

The two boxers were slated to face each other at 130-pounds, but then Burns moved up to lightweight. After Broner moved up to the lightweight division, there was more talk of them facing each other, but Burns once again moved up to junior welterweight. Broner skipped 140 and went all the way up to welterweight to capture a world title. After losing to Marcos Maidana, he dropped down to 140 to capture another world title.

Last fall, there was a lot of talk that Broner and Burns would finally collide in the early part of 2017 in Las Vegas. Their negotiations fell apart when Broner decided to go in another direction, but it's not exactly clear what prompted Broner's decision.

broner-burns-2_2.jpg

Broner is now scheduled to fight on February 18 against Adrian Granados, while Burns will take part in a WBA, IBO, IBF junior welterweight unification with Julius Indongo on April 15 in Glasgow.

Broner has no problem with entertaining a fight against Burns, and he's willing to give up the home advantage, if Burns' promoter Eddie of Matchroom Sport comes calling with the right financial package.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Broner said: “It’s going to be an enormous year for me and I’m at a much more positive, great stage and on a real good path now. My fight is on February 18, but before that two of my fighters, Rau’shee Warren and Robert Easter Jr, are fighting on February 10 defending world titles so big things are going on.

“I would love to face Ricky Burns and most definitely you could get me to the UK. Make my numbers right and we will have one hell of a fight.”

I'd rather watch Crawford vs the winner of Idongo vs Burns to have an undisputed champion. Of course if Indongo beats Burns' ass the Broner can fight him... :yeshrug:

Burns ain't gonna fight Crawford again....it's more money facing Adrien Broner than Crawford & Crawford already beat Burns.

Found this video of Paulie Malignaggi talking to Broner, discussing why he turned down the Burns fight....but telling Broner he should take it instead, in order to be the 1st person to stop Burns & win 2 belts in 1 night:obama:

Broner's opponents don't get significantly better money than Crawford opponents...

Allakherdiev only earned 50k against Broner. I think you overvalue the net worth of Broner or underrate the worth of Crawford.
Their only common opponent got 400 k against Crawford and 450k against Broner that's not some huge difference ad if you add two plus belts in the mix Crawford could be easily the better sounding offer.

But you're right in Burns probably doesn't want to run that back, I'll root for Indongo on their fight anyways...

I rather broner fight burns.

then have unification between Crawford....they need to build that fight
Broner just said he doesn't think about Crawford like yesterday or so... and I want Crawford to move up soon so him staying in 140 waiting out till Burns and Broner fight then probably thewiner of that has to deal with an IBF mandatory and then MAYBE they can make the fight... While Crawford does what...?
No, just cut the corners, let Indongo beat Burns and then Indongo vs Crawford early summer and then Crawford can move up... In the meantime while he's waiting he could beat Lipinets, looks like a solid opponent at least

Allakhverdiev isn't known at all in the US.....he would've gotten even less than $50k vs Crawford, just like Molina got less to fight Crawford even though he was fighting for 3 Championships in a main event vs Crawford, while vs Broner he was only in a co-main in a non-title bout.

Think about that breh:

Molina vs Broner. No titles on the line. Co-main event. Molina coming in off of 2 straight losses: a KO loss to Matthysse & a blow out UD loss to Soto in back to back fights...........but he made $450k.

Molina vs Crawford. 3 Championships on the line. Main Event. Molina coming in off 2 straight wins: a KO of Romero & a boxing lesson to Prov in back to back fights..............but he made $400k.

That doesn't really make sense to me, how you can get paid LESS to fight for 3 Championships in the main event, coming off 2 straight Ws than you did fighting in a co-main event with no championships on the line, coming off 2 straight Ls:yeshrug:

Or further....let's go to their best opposition. How much did Postol get to face Crawford on PPV in the main event in a #1 vs #2 unification bout? Only $675k right?.

How much did Porter get to face Broner on network TV in the main event in a non-title bout? $1 million.

Im just saying:manny:
