Showtime, HBO Still in Running to Air Joshua-Klitschko in U.S.
By Keith Idec
NEW YORK – Stephen Espinoza would’ve loved to have been able to tell reporters Thursday that Showtime has secured the U.S. television rights to air the Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko heavyweight championship showdown.
The Showtime executive still hasn’t been told by promoters of that April 29 fight, though, if Showtime or HBO has been chosen as the American television partner for that huge event.
Showtime has a multi-fight contract to air Joshua’s fights in the United States, but that agreement doesn’t include automatic rights to televise a bout between England’s Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) and Ukraine’s Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs). HBO has worked with the 41-year-old Klitschko during much of his Hall of Fame career, but the former heavyweight champion doesn’t have an exclusive contract with HBO.

That left the premium-cable rivals to bid against one another for the U.S. rights to broadcast the biggest heavyweight title fight since Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson in June 2002.
“I wish I had it,” Espinoza said regarding an answer about whether Showtime will televise Joshua-Klitschko. “We’re in the thick of it, but there’s no real substantive update yet.”
Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager for Showtime Sports, added that the delay hasn’t made him pessimistic about being able to adequately promote the huge heavyweight fight if his network secures the U.S. rights to do so.
“The reality is on a non-pay-per-view [show], our marketing is usually only three-to-four weeks [in advance],” Espinoza said. “So this Saturday will be four weeks out. And that fight is such a big fight, it’s gonna make a lot of noise when we finally get closer to it anyway.”
Espinoza acknowledged that the negotiations are complicated because Showtime is invested in the 27-year-old Joshua, who’s already a superstar in Great Britain, and HBO is invested in Klitschko, who’s well-known to audiences in Europe, former Soviet Union nations and the United States.
“It’s one of those situations where no one’s really gonna be happy,” Espinoza said, referring to the network that doesn’t get the fight. “They’ve got a relationship with their guy, we’ve got a relationship with our guy. It’s hard to come up with ways to split this. I’m confident that we’re gonna be able to work out it, so that there is U.S. TV for it. From the network’s [standpoint], it’s a little [like] Mayweather-Pacquiao – not at that scale, but each side has interests and investments to protect, and you’ve gotta come to some sort of resolution. It’s just not something we’re used to doing, so it takes a long time.”
Sky Sports Box Office will televise Joshua-Klitschko on pay-per-view in the United Kingdom.
Roughly 90,000 tickets have been sold for their April 29 fight at Wembley Stadium in London. It will air early in the evening on the East Coast in the United States and in the middle of the afternoon on the West Coast.

Lomachenko Fires Back, SHREDS Mikey Garcia and His Wins
By Edward Chaykovsky
WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) was more than ready to fire when he was informed of the recent comments that were made by WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs).
Last week, Garcia spoke with Brian Campbell of CBS Sports and explained why he wasn't impressed with Lomachenko's accomplishments and felt the two-time Olympic gold medal winner was getting way too much hype.
Garcia explained that he beat Orlando Salido, who gave Lomachenko his only career defeat. And he discussed how he knocked out Roman Martinez in 2014, and Lomachenko was getting a lot of praise for knocking out Martinez two years later.

“He got beat by an experienced, rugged fighter [Orlando Salido] and after that, he has improved a lot,” Garcia said. “He has a lot of credibility. But even at that, he’s only doing stuff that I already did three, four years ago.
“He couldn’t beat Salido, who I completely dominated. He wins his second world title, a title I had vacated that ends up going back to Rocky Martinez, the guy who I had previously knocked out. Then Vasyl Lomachenko knocks him out and all of a sudden he’s this greatest star because of victories that I already accomplished? Well, I don’t give him credit for that.”
Both Lomachenko and Garcia are recognized as being two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.
Lomachenko also spoke with Brian Campbell and not only explained why he wasn't impressed with Garcia's wins, but he also challenged Garcia to stay put at 135-pounds so they can get in the ring and settle their war of words the old fashioned way.
“Let’s talk about that. I read that interview when he was talking about that he destroyed Salido,” Lomachenko told Campbell. “I especially looked at that bout and he got lucky because he broke his nose. After the fourth or fifth round, Salido had already gotten to him and was ready to destroy.”
“If we want to talk about Rocky Martinez, let me ask you: Who was on the floor from Rocky Martinez? Yes, [Garcia] got a lucky punch and knocked him out in the eighth round, which I did in the fifth round. So we can talk about that as much as we can but if he wants to get my attention and he’s going to be staying at the 135, I’m going to come up at 135 too.
“If, right now, people are talking more about me, with me being the foreigner in this country, and not talking about him, that’s not a problem. We can meet in a few fights to find out who is better.”

that's a reach though...

Mikey actually won against Salido and that's the point, that's what is important. He also won against a better version of Salido
And what lucky punch... smh... Loma should know better than that

dude sometimes seems a little off, he can't really process well criticism or if he doesn't get his way, last time he claimed every champion running from him in 130 while 2 out of the other 3 only became champions like a month before he said that (Gervonta, Berchelt)
Not including yourself, who is the best 130-pound fighter in the world right now?
In my eyes, they’re all good, but I gotta say Vasyl Lomachenko is the best because he’s proven himself. But there is no one in the weight class who can do anything with me. The only one in the division who would give me a tough fight is Lomachenko.
12 Rounds With ... Gervonta Davis
..they were too eager to get out of that fightwhile mikey did beat a better version of salido..the broken nose and the way him and robert handled that never rubbed me the right way..they were too eager to get out of that fight

How was Salido better....he only faced Orlando Cruz between facing Garcia & Loma. And the Garcia vs Salido/Loma vs Salido fights were only 1 year apart.
He destroyed Cruz, so it's not like he took any punishment between the Garcia/Loma fights imo
Im not gonna take away from Mikey's Salido W ........I thought his nose was really broken![]()

Francisco brehLomachenko wanted Fernando Vargas.....he went in another direction and then lost to Berchelt.
