Golovkin's Trainer: Cotto Should Face 160-Pounder or Drop

Emes Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs), wants his boxer to unify with WBC king Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs). Last Saturday night, Golovkin headlined in the big room at New York's Madison Square Garden, where he stopped Daniel Geale in three rounds.

MSG is Cotto's second home in the United States. The Puerto Rican star draw records crowds of over 20,000 fans to his fights. That's why Sanchez believes a fight with Cotto, to decide which boxer is the best at middleweight, is the perfect contest for MSG.

Sanchez frowned at recent reports that Cotto may choose defend his title against Timothy Bradley or Saul Alvarez at a catch-weight. If Cotto wants to face fighters from the lower weight divisions, then Sanchez believes the Puerto Rican star should release his grasp of the WBC title and return to the lower weights.

"I want Cotto here in the Garden. If he calls himself the linear 160-pound champion, then he should fight a 160-pounder. If not, then vacate the title and go somewhere else -go back to 154. I think the public deserves that...the boxers, the organization deserve to have one champion...one 160-pound champion. Hopefully we can unify, but Cotto is the one who is most viable at the Garden,"

Same reason why Paulie was telling Porter to not lose and to become a great fighter.

Malignaggi not trying to become the KO victim of a guy that goes on to get out boxed by Brook and later on KO'ed by Thurman (hypothetically speaking of course)

Yep.

Oldest trick in the book. Lose to a fighter.....and hype him to the moon to make your loss not seem as bad:yeshrug:

Yep, If Chino beats Floyd, we'll be hearing how Maidana's a greater fighter than Duran and that he could give Hearns, Tito, and all of the other greats a tough fight as well.

Meanwhile Alexander will be somewhere to the side shaking his head and doing this. :what:

*awaits the same nikkas that were saying Cotto would give Chavez Jr the beats to claim he was too big once he whoops his ass* :mjpls:

as much as i think chavez jr is a bum the fact he has a chin and likes to blow up to cruiserweight fight night..it would be too much for this version of cotto to handle

i will say this, chino is actually building up a nice resume at the moment, with wins over ortiz, morales, broner at the moment. but all the mollys, four lokos, kush, super reggie and whatever mr smoke weed smoke aint good enough to say chino is greater than duran, tito, hearns and other greats at 147, even with a win over floyd. he still got some work to do win or lose after floyd.

hence the grilling he was giving ggg on saturday, did you see that? when ggg stepped into the ring , gary was there giving him some dirty looks.

shaw knew what time it was. there was a article about how he was pissed hbo didn't interview geale after the fight. he's fallen off hard as a promoter. crazy how times change, almost 10 years ago shaw had corrales, donaire, darchinyan, winky, lacy, dawson, raffy marquez all at together at one time. only fighter he got worth shyt under him is jennings.
