"Certainly, it's up to Miguel who he wants to fight but I think the Canelo [Alvarez] fight is a much more attractive fight," Top Rank's Bob Arum, Cotto's promoter, told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "Even though I love Golovkin and [K2 Promotions managing director] Tom Loeffler -- and nobody can say that Golovkin isn't a great fighter -- it's risk-reward in boxing. We don't know about Golovkin's ability on pay-per-view."

More likely, Golovkin will fight in October or November. Cotto is penciled in to fight again in December at the Garden, and likely not against anyone nearly as tough as Golovkin so as not to jeopardize the possibility of the Alvarez fight next spring.
One piece of good news from Arum is that he said Cotto's fight in December probably won't be on pay-per-view, no doubt in part because the numbers for the June fight with Martinez were so disappointing.

"I don't think it will be," Arum said. "I think we have to start doing more live premium television shows, so I don't think this will be on pay-per-view. It would be on HBO. We are meeting with HBO this week in Las Vegas and we'll be talking about it.

edit: Makes more sense and what I think should happen.

Maidana: Broner Stronger, Hits Hard Than Mayweather
Posted by: Luis Sandoval on 7/30/2014 .

Marcos Maidana is on a short list of fighters who have been able to give boxing’s pound for pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather a tough and competitive fight in the ring. He’s also on an even shorter list as he’s only the 2nd fighter to get a rematch against Mayweather with the other fighter being Jose Luis Castillo twelve years ago.

Part of the reason there was a demand for a fight with Mayweather and Maidana in the first place was due to Maidana upsetting Adrien Broner last year. Many have compared Broner to Mayweather as both use a shoulder roll defense and have similar personas outside the ring.
There’s probably nobody better than Maidana who can give a good assessment and comparison of both fighters as he’s the only one to have fought both.

After a strong training session in Oxnard, CA at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, Maidana was asked who he felt hit harder between Mayweather and Broner.

“I think Broner is stronger than Mayweather and hits harder. But what I know is that Mayweather is more elastic, he can move better. I think Broner also felt physically stronger,” Maidana would tell BoxingScene.

Maidana’s aggressive whirlwind attack befuddled Broner as he was knocked down twice in the fight and took some big shots for his troubles. The same aggressive style was also used by Maidana against Floyd and while he found some success, Floyd was able to adapt better and pull out a victory.

While Mayweather and Broner may appear similar to the eye, Maidana says he sees only one real similarity between both his past opponents.

“I think in some aspects, the way they are is the same. But up in the ring, the only thing they do the same is their defensive guard. Broner comes forward to attack and Mayweather moves and runs around” said Maidana.

Maidana will get a rare mulligan against Mayweather and will try to be the first fighter to hand Floyd a loss.

How many times does Marcos Maidana have to say this before nikkas stop saying that AB doesnt have any power?:sas2:

He said the same thing after the fight, that AB hurt him, but let nikkas on here tell it....AB doesnt have any power at all:snoop:

This is true, but you forgot Trout is still in his prime and has 2 good legs.

but nah on some real shyt. I don't think Cotto would take the risk even though I agree with you.

I would like to see Trout back on HBO and it would be a good fight. Cotto has looked more aggressive, so I think he would fare better.
My money is on an opponent that Cotto can KO and build hype for a Canelo showdown.

The opponent has to be better than Delvin Rodrigez though. Ain't nobody gonna get hyped for a Canelo fight if Cotto were to beat up another FNF level dude.

Trout's on a career down slide. Cotto should jump on that and get his revenge.
