Just did NYC last year with the whole family with no car for the first time so I can do the public transportation thing...this time it's just me and my wife

Still tempted to get a car but I got plenty of time to decide on that

Plan to hit the DuSable and I know my wife wants to see the glass floor at the Sears tower

But I'd love to just hit a regular park and play a lil hoop or get a quick workout....I'm weird like that lol

the dusable museum is mad small. so u won't be in there too long. museum wise, I recommend, shedd aquarium, museum of science and industry and the art institute. those are my 3 favs.

Hotel wise, downtown is solid and has great stuff like the Riverwalk/Magnificent Mile/The Bean/Millennium Park/Boat Architecture Tour/etc. IMO, it is better for sight-seeing than actually crossing paths with non-working locals though so keep that in mind.

Hyde Park (ie Sophy Hotel) is another option for more black people/restaurants/vibes. In terms of Ubers tho, you will tack be tacking on ~15 minutes to your commute to most places compared to a downtown hotel tho FYI. Alternatively, you can set aside a day to hang there for things like Promontory Point, Museum of Science and Industry and DuSable Museum, etc.

If you are here for Labor Day Wknd, then there will be a TON of events available. Traffic/parking will be a shyt show with lots of out-of-towners driving in too, so I'm also against getting a car. Ubers will be less of a hassle and you can always hop on the train like the locals do.

Some other events that you can slide to will be Movies in the Park by the Park District if something good is playing or googling Chicago Street Festivals Calendar to see what's going down while you're in town.

if u want deep dish, I'm gonna send u someplace that most people probably don't know. try williams inn. it's in the south loop near cermak (22nd street) on michigan. they have really underrated deep dish that is as good as any of the other famous places in the city. plus they are black owned.

Good looks on Williams Inn. I went there for lunch once, but haven't tried their pizza

@BunchePark if you don't want the traditional deep dish I also recommend Pequod's (pan pizza) & Ranalli's (thin crust).

==================

In other Chicago news, when my lease is up in West Loop next year I'ma take it on back to the Southside where all my fam is. The price of the mortgage is too good to pass up, gone put some money in the bungalow, upgrade it and live in it for a few years

We gotta get a Chicago Coli meetup this summer

Yeah, a car would be better.

The Sears Tower is downtown, so depending on where you stay that's in walking distance or a 5-7 minute Uber ride.

Like @beenz said, the DuSable is small so it's not a place where you'll be there for hours, but it's close to Hyde Park which has a good vibe, can definitely spend half a day or more in the area. There's a museum, planetarium, aquarium that are all dope on one campus close to the downtown area that you can spend hours there.

I'm down for that.

I been in a bungalow out this way for ten years now. 3% mortgage, so I'm never moving cuz I pay less than most folks pay for a 1BR apartment.

look at this report regarding red light cameras. the story specifically mentions hillside and evergreen park, which have both got me for tickets prior to the pandemic. however, I flat out refused to pay them cuz I was legally turning on red in both instances, so I said fukk it. 6-7 years later, nothing has happened and the couple times they did send me statements telling me that I can still pay, I promptly through them in the :trash: :pacspit:
