Coincidentally, I recently saw a breh who had a video on this subject, but I can't find it. To sum it up, breh said that the biggest advantage Manga has over US comics is that Manga and Anime are 1 to 1 adaptations. If you like an Anime and want to pick up where it left off, you can easily find the manga that directly connects to the anime. When you have read ahead in the manga, you can go back to the anime and see your favorite parts in animation.

He made the point that Manga and Anime have the perfect feedback loop. The MCU has been hella popular for the past 10 years, but it hasn't made an effect on Marvel's comics. However, you can see sales for manga always spike when an anime pops off, and that's due to the fact that they're directly connected. Can't do that with the MCU and the comics.

The art, the pacing, the direction... everything about Ultimate Endgame is trash.

Granted i've been mentally checked out of the Ultimate universe for months now that i skimmed the first few pages of the latest issue and asked myself why am i even wasting my time

Mind you, i tried reading the latest 616 Avengers book and asked myself the same question :mjlol:

I haven't even bothered with any of the x-books for the past year

Marvel cooked. It is what it is

Them Image books be cookin though. Power Fantasy like many of yall have mentioned but also Nights by Wyatt Kennedy, more of a guilty pleasure and i don't always fully understand what the fukk is going on... but it's a cool lil story.

From my understanding, the next issue of Power Fantasy will be the last or there will be a prolonged break.

I kinda assumed it was ending with the next issue, just given how everything... escalated quite a bit the last 2-3 eps. If it were to end and it sticks the landing, it'll definitely be contender for book/series of the decade, and one of the best superhero deconstruction stories if not flat out comic stories ever.

Yeah, just read Ultimate Endgame and it's the definition of a "who gives a shyt, get to the point" type of crossover. At least the art was better than the abomination of issue #1 but Camp has shown he fukking sucks at big stories. Why in the name of fukk was he given this responsibility I'll never understand :smh:

It's like every interaction and "reveal" Hickman set up in Ultimate Invasion is thrown in 1 panel as a throwaway full circle moment and everything Camp himself built in Ultimates is ancillary stuff that doesn't mean jackshyt either. Like, this book did not need 2 years of solo series about the new Ultimate Universe to exist and it's about the end the whole damn thing, it's just baffling to me :dead:

Gillen said he had 16 issues in mind when he started to tell a full story that maybe it could be continued if things went well.

Things did go well for the book and in the latest issue he said they are taking a big break after #16 to evaluate if there's a compelling way to keep the story going. I think it's too successful to let it end but I guess it's gonna depend on Gillen.

My take on the Manga vs Comics conversation
  • Manga is cheaper.
  • Has faithful, good-quality animated adaptations for non-readers in the form of anime.
  • Has a low entry point for newcomers getting into a series.
  • Has one writer and a beginning/end.
  • Has better drawn and animated action/fight scenes than their western counterpart.
  • A consistent release schedule.
  • Manga/Anime is taken more seriously in the East than comics/cartoons in the West.
  • More genres outside of the action genre. Gets attention and a chance at an animated adaptation.
