You live in LA or DC? Again i'm obviously not in the "urea" but You don't see nikkas under 40 bumping Go-go music anymore. Isn't it mainly old nikkas. In this social media age I cannot imagine teenagers "rolling out" to say The Eastside club with nikkas hollering at bytches who are in High school random fights popping off and or course bytches taking off their clothes in full view on the cameras.

Between Go-Go and Dancehall there must be thousands of video tapes of Underaged girls with their titties out.

I’m from PG, trust me when I say GoGo still got a large following among the youth out here today even with Rap music becoming deeply entrenched nowadays. As a matter of fact, something like this would have never happened if it wasn’t for the youth of today (I’m 28 years old btw):





Moechella was the creation of a late 20-something/early 30-something Mo County breh too.

All of that was in response to this shyt back in 2019:



After #DontMuteDC was trending heavily on Twitter, everybody and they mama showed the fukk out in front of that MetroPCS and shut the whole streets down. I’m talking about folks young and old from toddler age all the way to their 70’s....Even some DMV rappers were in the crowd too. Hell even the damn police and some of the Cacs who fukked with and respect GoGo were vibin with the crowd too.

I definitely wouldn’t call it old folks music breh

As a matter of fact, folks who are 40+ don’t really be doing these GoGo dance moves that my generation be doing:











The old heads GoGo was the stuff from the Pocket and Socket eras, my generation’s stuff is more so the Bounce Beat, Slow Bounce, and Gangsta (think Backyard) eras.

We gonna make sure we help to keep this GoGo shyt alive for future generations.

Also the main reason why GoGo don’t get much reception outside the region is because it’s live instrumental-oriented, relies heavily on musicality unlike a lotta Black music these days, and it has a very raw and primal energy that’s so unique that it’s practically an acquired taste....Plus GoGo is generally kinda fast, especially the old school shyt that go into marathon sessions. That’s why if you’ve noticed, most of the GoGo or GoGo-influenced songs that garnered national attention in the past is because the bands and artists had to slow the beat down so folks can keep up and a lot of us here in the DMV don’t really be feeling that type of formula and some of us view it as an equivalent of someone selling one’s soul and compromising one’s art Like I absolutely LOVE 1 Thing by Amerie and a lot of us out here do truth be told but we would be the first to tell you that the beat on 1 Thing is not a GoGo beat in its purest, rawest form. But then again, Bmore Club and NOLA Bounce music are just as fast if not faster than GoGo and they’ve received better reception, so idk...Folks got their preferences I guess lol.

Also, you could be in the hood or pull up to a gas station or just cruise around on the highway, I always hear nikkas bump GoGo loudly from their whips be them old heads or folks around my age or a lil younger lol. Hell I can’t front, I do the same shyt too especially around Cacs

That's a pretty good breakdown but we didn't have words for that shyt. I'm from the era were it was super Turnt up and when the music was sped up there was gonna be fights, It was inevitable and people got badly hurt. I got badly hurt at a Go-Go at the Marriott in New Carrolton. Had I known what I know now I could've sued the shyt out of them for having an illegal party with Minors and allowing me to be hurt and security or PG police doing nothing or offering me any assistance.

No way something can happen like that now. You're right though the main thing Go-Go has woking for it is that it's the link to the old Chocolate City. That Metro PCS has played Go-Go since the days where nikkas could buy PA Tapes so a white hater getting Mad was bound to cause a backlash. But again cassette tapes and VHS tapes have you ever even seen one of those?

I remember talking to a young Baltimore cat and telling him there was a song called Throw your guns up That had nothing to do with Guns. He said he heard of that. But even he admitted that saying West Side on the East side would be way too provocative.

But yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if the dynamic of hood callouts is similar to Bmore Club culture as it’s been for GoGo culture. It’s like having your hood being shouted out on either of those two just hits different compared to hearing it on a Rap joint sometimes.

Of Course that Metro PCS play Go-Go since you was born, They played Go-Go there for as long as I can remember, when there was a Popeye's on that Corner. But there was a lot of PA Tape spots like that back in the day that was the last of the last spot, I guess he kept playing the music out of tradition. In fact I guess people lived there but that was never considered a residental area. Even the Hospital never complained but some white colonizer did.

The Pull ya Gunz song was a song by a Treh that somehow was cool even back in the 90's (so much for Black people being super Homophobic)

Now GOGO I remember back in the early to mid 90s my band used to make bank. Between 8-12 years old bringing home bank rolls of cash for years. We had a corner we claimed downtown at the old Shops around the corner from the Pavilion/post office which is now Trump hotel I believe. We banged on the buckets .

Decades, DC9, Pure Lounge, Lounge of Three, Cafe Citron, MK Lounge, Vivid Lounge, Glow Lounge, Dodge City, Aqua, Velvet Lounge, The Gibson, Bossa Bistro, Brixton, Columbia Station, Black Cat, Blues Alley Club, Deja Vu, Penn Social, Madam’s Organ, Grand Central, etc.

I was about to mention Twins Jazz but found out that they’ve permanently shut down due to the pandemic

Brixton is still doing fine but I wasn’t aware of Marvin’s biting the dust tho That place was real lit when they had bands performing smh, this pandemic killed a lot of nightlife in this country.

I always tell transplants that you don’t even have to love or enjoy GoGo but as long as you respect it as a culture and its criminally underrated contributions and influences to Black music, then it’s all love.

Yeah the nightlife is not the same. There was a time I was going out almost every night in DC, Mondays Marvin, Tuesdays Cloak and Dagger, Wednesday 18th street lounge, Thursday Stadium, Fridays and Saturdays Ozio, U St. and Park, Sunday hit up the day parties, then repeat that shyt on Monday.

Although I'm a transplant too I think that anyone who moves to DC past High School age will never get Go-Go. It worked for DC nikkas because we grew up on it and it was always parties where it was being played. Like Other cities had rappers who might be popping in their town every neighborhood in DC had at least one band.

It was like you didn't matter if you didn't get shouted out by a band on a tape. I remember Years later I was driving around in Fayetteville NC and they played the Backyard Budweiser song (That's another thing there were no songs shyt just melded into each other) and I heard my name shouted out on the record. Their bassist used to live up the street from me.
