I grew up in the DC/NoVa area but I'm strongly considering moving to PG County in the next few years. I never felt at home in Northern VA as a black man. Now that I've graduated with my Bachelor's and getting into the social work field in preparation for my long term goals of having my own private practice, I really want to start spreading my wings

I wish every state in America had a PG like area. It's the closest thing to Wakanda to me
:wow:

Putting this thread on my watchlist

Make that move to Pretty Girl County breh :myman: I grew up here in PG all my life and I’m still thankful for it, whether it was in the hood (Suitland/Forestville/District Heights/Walker Mill), the burbs (Clinton), and the boonies (Brandywine). Just a sea of Black faces so vast that you could legit go without seeing a single Cac in some spots for weeks if not months :wow: We do have our issues but the county as a whole just feels like one big ass safe space for us Black folks, even out in places like Eagle Harbor and Brandywine....Most of those big houses you see down that part of the county with the winding country roads, abundant greenery, huge amounts of property land, and hella cars in the driveway or front yard are Black households.

North VA is cool don’t get me wrong, but I just can’t vibe to it 70% of the time. Mo County too with the exception of Silver Spring. I like Rockville but it’s still too many Cacs for my personal liking. That’s why a lot of us from PG and DC be calling NoVa and MoCo vanilla lol. Takoma Park is a really cool looking town even though it’s heavily Hispanic. At least the migos around TP drive better than their counterparts just down the street in Langley Park, Hyattsville, and Riverdale :mjlol:

The sensation I get when I drive from work in Arlington and cross the WW Bridge and see that ‘Welcome to Maryland’ sign overhead and the National Harbor/MGM “skyline” with hella Black folks driving next to me :wow: Legit feel like the only other major metro area that can offer that same sensation is ATL. Truly ain’t no place like home, especially when everybody look like you. So much so that some of my fellow native Prince Georgians take that for granted and think the rest of the country is as Black as us, or at least the ones who aren’t well-traveled yet.

Also if you don’t mind the commute, you can look into Charles County too breh. That county just recently became predominantly Black (legit last year, I think it’s like 51% Black now). Their property taxes aren’t as high as ours and they got a better school district if you’re thinking about putting down roots on this side of the Potomac.

Yep, moving to Downtown Silver Spring next month:myman:

@Groovy Tony Since you’re looking into moving to MD, keep Silver Spring in mind too along with PG.

Silver Spring in general got plenty of places for you to set up in but Downtown SS is quite possibly the best “work-live-play” CBD in the whole DMV outside of DC and Arlington. I really love how urban and suburban (more so streetcar suburban) at the same time a lot of Silver Spring is....Similar to Hyattsville but not as dusty lol. Silver Spring has a great location too with DC just down the street, Georgia Ave going through the whole city, both PG County and 495 nearby, and Rockville and Takoma Park right near its vicinity. It’s got plenty of nightlife, diverse restaurants, some cool festivities including FestAfrica, and is pretty much the Blackest part of Montgomery County relatively speaking. I’ll think you’ll definitely feast well in Silver Spring if you’re curious about it breh.

I prefer the burbs but I think your description is spot on. There are a good number of Black professionals in Mogo too. People would be surprised how many BP live in those mansions.

I understand. The quality of life is just a lot better imo. I would never move back to PG but plenty people enjoy living there.

I’ll say this tho, I’ll gladly live in MoCo than a large chunk of NoVa.

And Idk why but I also anticipate someone moving from PG to MoCo is prolly like relocating from Chicago to Toronto lol :russ:

Yeah it's not rachet. People actually feel comfortable leaving their doors open in the nicer months. Won't find one city in PG where they do that.
Where are you from that it’s normal to keep your doors open / unlocked :mjlol:
I’ve lived in various nice and not nice communities in multiple states and no one does that lol that’s some TV shyt lol

I find that many PG folks are so uncomfortable in places where blacks aren’t the majority lol

I went out with my girl and her friend from PG in College Park and she was like :gucci:where the black folks at

:pachaha:
Anyway MoCo is at least 20% black so plenty of black areas there

honesty anywhere in the DMV you will find black people

well to do black families overwhelming f live in PG or Charles County or NoVa tho; I can provide some data supporting that

EDIT:
Black median household income and percentage by county:
  1. Stafford-$109.8k 17.1% Black
  2. Loudoun-$103.3k 7.3% Black
  3. Prince William-$90.6k 20.6% Black
  4. Howard-$88.5 18.3% Black
  5. Charles-$86.3 42.6% Black
  6. Fairfax-$83k 9.5% Black
  7. Prince George's- $76.5k 63.5% Black
  8. Anne Arundel-$75.6k 15.9% Black
  9. Montgomery-$69.5k 17.8% Black
  10. Calvert-$64.8k 12.3% Black
this info is from 2018
