Tbh they haven't really been producing a pool of #9's for a long time. You can name the decent to good ones on 1 hand since 2000. Majority of the #9 that do well in Bundesliga since 2000 cannot play for the NT. Claudio Pizzaro was still play in the Bundesliga till he retired in the summer at 41

Yeah, Klose and Mario Gomez are the last good German 9s I can think of. I just took a look at the top 10 Bundesliga scorers from last year and other than Werner, there were 2 other German strikers, Florian Niederlechner of Augsburg and Rouwen Hennings of Dusseldorf but they were both olders guys on shyt teams. They seem to mainly specialize in wingers and attacking midfielders these days.
