United had their best run with Pogba playing out on the left, he doesn't have to be in the midfield. The reason him playing out on the left worked is because he becomes the third midfielder when necessary, because two-man midfield set up Ole has doesn't work whether it's McFred or any Pogba combination.
With Bruno playing as SS and Ronaldo providing nothing at all in the buildup or press, the midfield two are left out on their own against pretty much everyone playing three-man midfields.
McFred don't have the composure or technical ability, Pogba/another midfield don't have the defensive work rate. Pogba on the left provides a third midfielder, versatility and link up play to Ronaldo, Bruno and Greenwood.

it was always going to be the team ole picked. back 6 with mcfred and hope for a moment from the front 4 on a counter. plus ole logic is thats the starting lineup from atalanta game and we won the game so its a good lineup. the positive if it goes wrong is there are options on the bench if the game isnt out of reach by the time he decides to use them.
