It's because Wenget did his business early in getting Sanchez, Chambers and Debuchy and couldn't possibly foresee the Giroud injury. So he's been trying to bed in both Sanogo and Sanchez in the Giroud role but it's yielded iffy results.

That's all it really boils down to...this time around.

tbf, we do business early but like to see what happens late. Factor in Champion League $$$ was important in years past, we had to hold off late.

Last year, Spurs screwed us and it postponed Ozil/Di Maria last year. This year we did Sanchez, Chambers, Debuchy, and Ospina early. If Carvalho wasn't owned by a 3rd Party I think he would be an Arsenal player now.
