New Hope For the HaveNotz
Serious question, what economic plan could Ayanna Pressley run on that would win rural cacs over to voting for her in a 2028 general presidential election?I never said itās all about material benefits. I said people are hungry for change and thereās only one party offering them anything transformative.
The New Deal wasnāt just about material benefits, it was radically changing the ways the public thought about their government and their lives. The vision of Universal Healthcare does the same. Itās not just āoh, Iām saving $150 a monthā like Neoliberal Democrats like to reduce everything to, itās āthe Democrats saved my wifeās life.ā or āthe Democrats made sure I didnāt have to spend the last days of my fatherās life arguing with people trying to deny his insurance claims.ā Those are not just material benefits, those are spiritual experiences that led to a whole demographic of people literally worshipping FDR.
Rural cacs donāt vote for that because the Democrats donāt even give them the option to. So itās either the transformative vision of the right-wing MAGA fascists or the status quo vision of the Democratic Neoliberals. If youāre a rural cac who (correctly) feels like theyāre on the wrong side of the prosperity see-saw, why would you ever vote for the Democrats? Saying āoh well theyāre too racist and sexist to even try offering them an alternative visionā is just complete loser behavior.
Yes some number of them are too far gone down the path of bigotry to vote for a radically transformative progressive vision like the New Deal. So what? We donāt need to win them all.
If itās not about race or misogyny, what would be her platform in your eyes that could win her a national general election against JD Vance in 2028?
