Exactly. I purchased it for that reason. I'm gonna keep my Mark III as a backup. I have a Sony a6700 as well in the event I want to start toying around with video.

I met some photogs down there that had 600mm joints, you really could see the pilots face
. You DO need this lens because it is Canon's least expensive absolutely lightweight telephoto. Once you start shooting with it you will be looking for shots to capture with it. I have lugged around their heavy non-mirrorless tele joints shooting the air show before, this RF lens weighs next to nothing and can produce some beautiful shots for a non-L lens. I can drop some shots in here that I got with it

@shutterguy I just got this shyt and took a picture of the house on my street at the end of the cul-de-sac. From my driveway to that house, which is damn near a football field and a half, I took a picture and I can see the goddamn license plates on the cars clearly!! 
. It feels so cheap. like a toy. This lens with an R3 weight together is lighter than the 70-200 lens I have with my DSLR. wtf.. My sun shield won't be here until Sunday.

It really is a quite capable lens for being inexpensive extremely lightweight glass. When I got it I was worried about accidentally dropping it and breaking it cause it weighs nothing. I used it at a few race events and was surprised at the quality of shots I got, especially with the stabilization on. Weight savings is huge, on my EOS R, that lens and body is only 3lbs. When I had my 5D Mark IV with a 70-200mm L attached, I was easily 6-7lbs of equipment. I see the lens hood from Canon finally came off Forever Backorder.

I swear cameras and lenses even second hand have never been this crazy price wise
