I don't think a spin off series will work

We, as the viewers, already know the drill by now

Season 1 worked because the viewers discovered what the games were really about while watching the show, i.e. how the money accumulates, what happens to the contestants who lose etc.

In a spin off series, viewers will know in advance what will happen. So the contestants will be all shocked to learn the truth about the games whereas the viewers will be like :unimpressed:

Bruh why are they playing ddakji in LA, kick the can, marbles, or jacks makes since. Feels like the us version is gonna be a heavy retread.

I think it was just a poorly-written way of showing that they have only now just moved the game from Korea to the US. So the games remain the same

It kinda stunk :manny:

Scrolled through the thread to see if anyone else mentioned her. Surprised she isn’t getting more love. I thought she was the best actor in the series. Good character and the way she went out made the most sense.
She was great. I wouldn't say "best actor" because they're some solid actors in the show.

Anyway, her death actually got me. I didn't expect it. Other character's deaths in season 3, I predicted or could sense was coming.

Grandma got me :mjcry:

“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that if a U.S. remake of the hit Netflix series were to happen, he would cast Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead.

In a video released Tuesday on Vanity Fair’s YouTube channel, Hwang appeared alongside cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Kang Ae-sim, Yim Si-wan, Park Sung-hoon and Jo Yu-ri to play a lighthearted quiz game about one another.

During the segment, Hwang asked who he would cast as the lead if “Squid Game” were remade in the United States. Lee Byung-hun suggested Adam Sandler, but it was Yim Si-wan who correctly guessed Leonardo DiCaprio.

“We had a lot of rumors about him — will he be a cameo and such,” Hwang said, alluding to ongoing fan speculation about DiCaprio’s involvement.

Yim followed up by asking whether DiCaprio would be cast as the mysterious Front Man or as a player. Hwang replied, “If he were to do it, I think he would do well as a player. Lately he’s gotten good at loser roles like Gi-hun’s.”

The director also addressed circulating reports from some foreign media that a U.S. spinoff titled “Squid Game: America” is scheduled to begin filming in December, with acclaimed director David Fincher (“Se7en,” “Fight Club”) reportedly attached. Hwang denied the rumors but added, “If I were officially asked, I’d seriously consider it.”

The Netflix original “Squid Game” became a global phenomenon after its release in 2021, earning multiple Emmy Awards and critical acclaim. DiCaprio, a known fan of international cinema, previously made headlines after being spotted at a Netflix event where he praised the series.

alternate ending

I would’ve hated that ending. The one we got is more likely what would happen in the real world. In the end, the players who died get nothing and their families get nothing. Thank you for playing.

In a happy ending, the games would stop. Player 456 survives. Front man, the VIPs, and the guards would all be in jail, the families of the victims would be compensated, and the useless detective is promoted to chief as a result of his endless pursuit of the games. However, the system was designed to never fail because everyone is expendable - even the creators. Front man said it himself. Kill him and someone will just replace him. Guards and players will always be attainable because we have millions of desperate people with nothing to lose. Even if the games became public, people would still sign up just for the chance to make it. VIP’s? There’s always another group of bored billionaires ready to jump into a submarine to visit the next squid game location. The location being discovered? No problem. Already planned to destroy the island if they were ever discovered. The VIPs already hinted that there are other games going on in other parts of the world. The detective? No evidence. Player 456 odds of surviving two competitions and seeing his daughter: 0.00048%

By the end of both competitions we mainly had the most selfish and ruthless characters who were willing to step on others make it just like we see happen in real life. We don’t always get happy endings in real life. So to me they did fantastic with the ending.
