I would’ve hated that ending. The one we got is more likely what would happen in the real world. In the end, the players who died get nothing and their families get nothing. Thank you for playing.

In a happy ending, the games would stop. Player 456 survives. Front man, the VIPs, and the guards would all be in jail, the families of the victims would be compensated, and the useless detective is promoted to chief as a result of his endless pursuit of the games. However, the system was designed to never fail because everyone is expendable - even the creators. Front man said it himself. Kill him and someone will just replace him. Guards and players will always be attainable because we have millions of desperate people with nothing to lose. Even if the games became public, people would still sign up just for the chance to make it. VIP’s? There’s always another group of bored billionaires ready to jump into a submarine to visit the next squid game location. The location being discovered? No problem. Already planned to destroy the island if they were ever discovered. The VIPs already hinted that there are other games going on in other parts of the world. The detective? No evidence. Player 456 odds of surviving two competitions and seeing his daughter: 0.00048%

By the end of both competitions we mainly had the most selfish and ruthless characters who were willing to step on others make it just like we see happen in real life. We don’t always get happy endings in real life. So to me they did fantastic with the ending.
What are you talking about? :dahell:

That alternate ending isn't a happy one. The South Korean Squid Game coming to an end only for Gi-hun (and the audience) to find out that there are Squid Games held in other countries is a solid ending.

The motif of the series (at least originally, before it got convoluted in seasons 2 & 3) is that the rich will do whatever they want, no matter how hard others try to stop them.

What exactly is confusing about @Dontdoit3 ’s post?

In comparison to the original ending the alternate ending would be considered the “optimistic” ending. Even the show creator agrees.
The original ending we got it is closer to reality and stay true to the characters and theme of the franchise.

The original Speak No Evil ending >>>>> this series finale ending of Squid Games

if we're talking about bleak sad hopeless endings

buddy beating the game again and the detective busting up the ringleaders to later find out they ain't really do shyt because the whole world is in on it, would have been a quality ironic ending that's better than what we got. But that's just my opinion.

I don't see what's "optimistic" about the alternate ending. It would be like playing Whac-A-Mole.

You stop 1, but there are 3 others that sprout up. The capitalist death machine doesn't stop. What's "optimistic" about that?

yes pretty much what @Blessings has above. To me (my honest opinion), him even surviving the games twice to go home and see his daughter is as happy an ending as you can get. While it’s not a happy ending for everyone else, at least it is partially for the main character where he gets to do what he originally set out to do which was to have enough money to provide for his daughter and be there for her. If I recall that was one of the main reasons for him entering the games in season 1. Would he have been able to live with himself? Probably not. Does that ending feel good for the audience? Yea.

I love the ending we got because it’s more realistic and hurts. Not only do the games still continue, and the elite still get away with their actions, but player 456’s foolish decision to reenter was a massive failure. He failed to reunite with his daughter, failed to end the games, and failed to sway the rich and frontman from their love of this squid game business. Great speech at the end, but no change. The house always wins. That’s just how life goes

The Frontman definitely seems to be slightly changed.

He takes Gi-hun's money and gives it to his daughter. He takes care of Jun-hee's baby for 6 months and then gives her to his brother to raise (with the prize money as well).

He seemed caught off guard by the Cate Blanchett's character and them playing ddkaji in LA lol.

Even the Frontman's actor (Lee Byung-hun) said so:

While speaking with Netflix Tudum, Byung-hun explained why the Front Man saved the baby, saying that there were still signs of his last piece of humanity still remaining within him.

"That actually highlighted the fact that he has that last remaining piece of humanity deep down somewhere. That’s the agreement that director Hwang and I came to. That’s how I played my character. Front Man has that last piece of benevolence remaining inside of him.”

That's no different than the ending we got. We still have what you mentioned in bold.

The show creator literally said in comparison, the
alternate ending is "optimistic" because Gi-hun remains alive and sees his daughter in LA

Fair enough, I guess.

However, I still feel as though the creator went for maximum sadness and drama instead of crafting a better story in season 3.

To be fair, Squid Game was originally only meant to be one season, so I'll cut him some slack :hubie:

The ending is mid because the shock value of the fact that the game never ended because south Korea was just one of many isn't there because the frontman always knew it was bigger than him. That's why he's just looking at that lady in the alley like :ehh: "Oh yeah, Becky got promoted to recruiting, I remember seeing that in the company newsletter."

For that moment to actually hit it had to be someone who thought it all ended with South Korea. They already painted 456 into a corner because we knew he wasn't going to kill that baby. The only person that makes sense after him is the defective detective. A simple rewrite has him take 456's first winnings to his daughter and then see alley and be shocked.
