Ontario’s police watchdog agency says it is investigating two separate incidents during this weekend’s clear-out of anti-mandate protesters in Ottawa; one where a woman was allegedly injured by a police officer on horseback and another where hard anti-riot projectiles were fired into a crowd.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says that 5:14 p.m. on on Friday, a Toronto police officer on horseback made contact with a 49-year-old woman at Rideau Street and Mackenzie Avenue, north of the Senate of Canada building and east of the Chateau Laurier Hotel.
The SIU says the woman suffered a serious injury in the encounter.
The next day at 7:18 p.m., the SIU said that a group of Vancouver police officers operating near Bank and Sparks streets fired Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) projectile launchers at people gathered in the vicinity.
The ARWEN fires a 37 millimetre polymer baton-shaped round at up to 242 feet per second.
Investigators say they have so far not located anyone injured by the projectiles, but are asking anyone who was struck by them to contact the SIU.
Police tactics at the operation have been the subject of intense scrutiny, with a foreign media personality falsely claiming someone was trampled to death by a police horse on Friday.
The SIU is called in to probe any incident involving a police officer operating in Ontario and a member of the public where there is a death, serious injury, allegation of sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm at an individual.

that is literally unheard of. Every police force in the country was transported to downtown Ottawa to crush the protest. Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec Provincial Police, OPP, RCMP. Its a huge stretch to suggest theyre taking it easy on them.The only reason the protest lasted for as long as it has, is because Ottawa Police is a mess. Nothing more to it. If it was about police empathy for the protesters than they wouldve been able to set up shop in Quebec City, Toronto etc.
Anyone cheering on the obvious overkill by the federal government right now will regret it, the moment the emergency powers are used again in the future. Imagine a scenario where theres an attack by an ISIS type group down the line and Conservative government starts freezing bank accounts of relatives of suspects without court orders. Or imagine how a rail blockade by indigenous protesters will be treated (if not when) a Conserative government is in power? The Liberals opened a huge pandoras box and the future will be ugly.

I live in Ottawa, I assure you it was not locked down.
Majority of the city was operating like normal aside from the blocks directly adjacent to the Parliament. Even then, I walked by some of the streets where they set up and it was like a goofy anti-vaccine version of Occupy Wall Street rather than a serious threat to overthrow Government. Didnt feel even remotely threatened.
Parliament was sitting in person for literally two weeks in the midst of this. If it was a serious coup attempt, do you really think they'd allow the Prime Minister and every MP to sit in the House while they're outside? The only time Parliament shut down was when the police operation started.
It is about divides between white people specifically. White urban liberal Canadians (basically a description of downtown Ottawa residents claiming the last 20 days = the Gaza Strip) are especially offended by them. Im vaccinated and dont believe in vaccine conspiracies but I also can call it for what it is. Shut down bank accounts without court orders isnt business as usual at all and you're fooling yourself if you dont think this will be deployed against causes unpopular with Conservatives in the future.

Did you ignore what I wrote before that? The only reason they werent cleared earlier and able to set up was because of dysfunction within Ottawa Police. Since then, the Government has gone on extreme overdrive, used legislation thats never been used in Canadian history and has deployed all the force of the state against them. The government has never frozen bank accounts without court order or recourse ever. The only reason people are downplaying this/overlooking it is because they dislike the protesters.
It is huge overkill and you dont have to support their protest to recognize this.
Using the logic some of yall are deploying, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association is clearly pro convoy too now
