To buy the average house in Toronto you need a down payment of like 70k to be stuck with a 700k mortgage
The problem with the Chinese coming in to buy prperty in the big cities(mostly Toronto and Vancouver, but Montreal its happening to as well)
i that most of the time NO ONE is living in the place. Its just there to park money away from the Chinese Government.
Same thing is starting to happen in the states more. But Canada doesn't have the same RE laws so they are getting fukked over even more.

Yeah in Vancouver there are literally empty condos, that just stay vacant, and only used a few months. Or empty houses which leafs to schools closing etc,as well they don't work, so no taxes are paid but property

It is the Chinese and other foreign investors. Inflation always occurs but it usually matches the wages of the ppl buying up the houses. If average household income is 50K it doesn't make sense for house prices to go up 4x. Foreign investors are polluting the market and making it difficult for ppl who have to live, work and pay taxes here to purchase houses or rent at an affordable rate.
& this mofos are rich as hell. I used to go to school downtown Toronto and you'd see porsches, beamers and benzes parked next to the residence areas. how many canadians can afford to drive these whips. most of them were asian (chinese). they are fukking the game up for real.
How is Chicago real estate though in comparison? I always thought y'all wrestle with the same issues since we are sister cities.

chicago real estate is cheap by comparision to what u described. if you got a million dollar crib, it's gonna be in a trendy area and be a really nice home most times. out here, you can get a solid single family house for $200-300K and be very happy. I'm talkin bout a totally rehabbed crib with 3+ BR's and 2+BA's and a 2 car garage. also property taxes are pretty cheap in the city.
