Unless a miracle happens there probably won't be a sequel. Ready at Dawn will be lucky to survive this. They've been working on this game since 2010 mind you. The game has a 65 on Metacritic it seems likely destined to be a bomb. It has no multiplayer and a short campaign with no replay value. We'll see when the numbers come out but this doesn't look good at all.

Yeah I hope the studio doesn't close down somehow. AAA misfires have killed alot of studios these past several years.

Some of these reviews :scust: Some terribly written articles. Gaming journalism is a joke

It's been that way for years and they wonder why so many studios are closing and shyt and we're seeing the rise of smaller indy/digital titles.

And we know negativity sells/gets clicks.

I do wish we could get more demos and shyt to try for ourselves instead of relying on these click baiters.

I'm copping for 48 (GCU been good to a nikka), gonna beat the game, and flip it on Ebay like I do with most of my titles when done (can probably get 30-35 easy). A net 20 dollar price paid to play, that's good to me. :win:

Yup.

Budgets DO need to be reigned in though (especially marketing/advertising/upper management who aren't doing shyt to make the game). But I do remember Shu saying that many games don't recoup.

In this environment if you get AAA backing from a company like Sony and it doesn't pay off you'll be lucky to escape with only a few layoff. More than likely the studio goes under.

Ready at Dawn was too confident in a failing style of product. Generally speaking heavily cinematic single player only games with 10 hour or less campaigns aren't well received. They should have built a multiplayer mode. Outside of Metal Gear Solid games that are mostly cut scenes aren't well received.

The only MGS game that was mostly cutscenes was MGS4 and its seen as the worst in the series by far.

People don't like watching games.

well, MGS4 actually received a lot of criticism for being cut-scene heavy. and that plays into what you were calling a "failing style of product", because you would think moving forward devs/pubs would realize people don't want that

It seems like this games issue is the story isn't enough to save it's length, excessive hand holding and long cinematics which ultimately outweighs the competent gameplay and visuals.... marred by bad execution.

Still coping tomorrow.

Edit:Bloodborne?? looks like guaranteed piff.

Heavy Rain was an exception.

Heavy rain is more like a "choose your own adventure" book.

Even though you are watching it, you still feel engaged because you are the one driving the story as opposed to it being dictated to you.

In those games the cutscene is the gameplay in a sense.

Its not even that people don't want it but if a game isn't a full game then don't charge $60 for it. If it's an interactive movie try charging $30. Critically speaking though interactive movies almost always get slammed. Heavy Rain is the exception not the rule and that was from a while ago. Beyond Two Souls came out in the same style and was slammed. I played it and thought it was solid but I have no issues mostly watching a game. I don't judge something by what I want it to be I judge it for what it is.

Example: I think Final Fantasy XIII is a solid game but I didn't pick it up expecting it to be like Final Fantasy VI or VII. XIII is an interactive movie with minimal linear gameplay and to me that's fine but to the gaming critics because it wasn't an open world RPG with exploration that made it a mediocre game.

I always expected The Order to be a giant cut scene. I didn't expect it to be basically half a story though.
