what was your current cpu ? and its not about it just being an i7, it has to be a good i7.. example an i5-4690k will outperform a i7-2600k..

I was getting the I7 4790K and my current cpu was Amd fx 8150 at 4.5

Unless the game uses the CPU heavy the i7 will gain you about 10 fps extra at most on current titles. GPU is gonna be the bigger deal for sure.

Intel 4.5ghz is much better than AMD 4.5ghz. You'll like the 4790k. Try to get liquid cooling too. You can push it to 4.6 or 4.7ghz. It's a hot CPU, so overclocking on air is difficult.

Nah, Haswell runs pretty hot. Just get an corsair H80i or H90 and you'll be good for overclocking.

@daze23 @itsyoung!! when i switch to the I7 how much of a difference will my FPS jump. I am getting most next games at like 60 or like 55. I think my CPU was bottlenecking my GPU

you'd have to unlock your framerate (no vsync) to really test it. or better yet, use a program like 3dmark before and after. I think the (free) demo will give you enough info

3D mark. I have an AMD ultra widescreen monitor with AMD free sync at 75mhz. I cant tell a difference at all.

Your overclock isn't stable then. No way you should be crashing on 3D Mark

I'm already bored with console gaming. I only use my xbox for netflix and my larrystation 4 is just collecting dust. I really want to get into PC gaming as the games I really want to play ATM are on PC.
