the rx480 is not an upgrade at all. its probably equal or less than a 970.

if freesync is what u want, than it makes sense.

480s been going neck and neck with the 1060 recently and the added 8GB VRAM is looking good to me.

I got till March though so I'll see if Vega drops or if the 1070 gets lower in price along with last years G Sync monitors :yeshrug:

the vram only matters if youre wanting 4k. but even at 4k, u need a high end 1080 to drive 60fps consistently.

stick to a 1440p resolution monitor. i have a acer predator xb271hu paired with my 980 ti. im also waiting to see amd ryzen and vega is about.

I have a 1440p monitor but with modding and such the more vram the better.

This 970 is fine at 1440p most of the time but I'm tired of having to tweak so many settings to get it right and I can't go back to 1080p now :russ:

Guys I want to game in my living room without moving my PC

I can get a wired connection there for any devices

Steam Link was what came to mind at first..

any other suggestions? Moving my desktop isn't really an option cause my fam uses that TV a lot, so I want to be able to easily switch

True and not true. If you want max settings, even at 1080p, you need a lot of vram (especially if you get the high res textures). But if you don't care about that, then it doesn't matter

So should i cop any 1080 or are there higher spec ones then others?

Well, I'm not the best person to talk to honestly. I go hard with tech. I have 2 Titan X Pascals (12gb of vram each).

Personally, I'd get a Titan X P. One card plays almost all games in 4K all ultra 60fps. (I got 2 to play in 5K and above)

Or...you could wait for the (possible) 1080ti that hasn't been announced yet.

I'd personally drop $1200 on the Titan X P, but that's just me. It's got the vram, the teraflops, etc., and $1200 isn't a big cost for me. Depending on your needs that might be overkill or too expensive. It all depends if you want 4K, all ultra, or can deal with lower settings. I'm an all ultra guy, so I buy the best possible cards out. That's just me. You may be fine at 4K, medium, 60fps. If so, get the 1080.

so is paying the extra for the 8gb model worth it? Cause you can "future proof" considering games usually recommend a max of 4 these days?
