@itsyoung!! and brehs I was planning on running Plex through chromecast but my understanding is that I would need to keep my PC on at all times to run as a server, that's a no go because it is loud as fukk and it's in my bedroom. I looked into the NAS, but them shyts are pretty expensive and apparently can't transcode, not powerful enough to run subtitles :what:. Is there any other set up I could use?

HTPC/XMBC thread is dead city so I thought i would ask it here.

i mean, how else is it going to access files that are stored on your computer? I can't really think of a way for it to work without your computer being on, can you put shyt on a cloud and run plex from the files based on the cloud through a PS4? (if you have a PS4....)

why's your pc so loud just running as a server? just getting in there and blowing the dust out (with compressed air) could help quiet things down

Went to Microcenter and copped the Skylake 6700k. Also got the Z170X-Gaming 5 and an Obisidian 450D with 16GBs of Vengeance. Everything was like 700ish out the door with tax. Used Discover with Apple Pay so that's 11% CB and when I sell this Haswell 4770K and the various components of my mini ITX PC I'm not using in this ATX build I expect the final cost to be well under $400 total. At least now I can get another 980 Ti and SLI when the next generation cards hit and the price drops.

I'm never doing another mini ITX build again. They suck.

Was it dumb to sell this old PC for $320?
Intel Core i7 4770k
16GBs of Corsair Vengeance 1600 DDR3 RAM
ASRock Z87E-ITX
Bitfenix Prodigy with a cracked bottom handle.

I was looking for a budget monitor and Lifehacker says Asus VE247H 24 is good. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get this one for like $160? Sorry for the random question, but I don't know anything about monitors.

Asus monitors are really hit or miss. I'd do some user comments research before purchasing. I had three asus 1440p monitors fail on me. Three! :damn:

Not really...if you going to stream from that pc it is going to have to be on all the time...

I would recommend just building a super cheap file server pc...biggest case that supports the most hard drives and the cheapest everythign else you can find (motherboard, cput, etc)
