do you overclock your cpu?

nah, running at stock 3.50 GHz, even though my bios is supposed to be boosting it to 3.9 GHZ (which its not). I do hear the most common overclock for my processor is around 4.2 GHz but im not even sure thats the issue. It might be the amount of threads/cores being used

overclocking will give you a performance boost, and it's 'free'

if you want more cores, you'll need to get a haswell-e i7. they're around $400 and would also require you to get a LGA-2011v3 mobo

OC-Genie is really fukking it up for me to go to 4.2 GHZ :francis: and I dont know how to disable it :francis:

so lately my CPU been running at stock 3.5 GHz after messing around in BIOS/OC genie I got it to 3.9 GHz just now but id like for it to be faster but when I tried to customize OC Genie, it wasnt updating and I cant adjust regular clock speed for whatever reason since my computer is dead set on using OC Genie (im sure its an option on the actual physical motherboard I have to adjust) im not taking apart my computer now :francis:

at least im up from 3.5 to 3.9 :manny:

isn't OC Genie controlled by a physical button on the mobo?

theres 2 options, BIOS controlled or physical button on mobo. the physical button on mobo overrides bios control. i guess I hit it (or didnt disable it) when putting my computer together and im too lazy to fix it right now. Ill try at 3.9 ghz for now :manny:

RAID 5 will be the (slight) faster of the 2 but SHR offers you flexibility in swapping drives of different sizes as well as easier expansion.

i don't own the synology products as i prefer FreeNAS + ZFS for all my media hosting and VM storage. BUT if you check out the synology forums you'll note a lot of people who went with RAID 5 in hindsight would have went with SHR.

Thanks, ill look into SHR

Finished building this recently, so may aswell show the specs.

I somewhat regret not getting the unlocked version of the CPU, but it's not really an issue at the moment.

The GPU is also the EVGA Superclocked GTX 980 ACX 2.0

@2gunsup whats the newest nice processor right now for around $250-350

and would it be a big upgrade from i7-3770k? im thinking of a new processor but if its not that big of an upgrade ima get some monitors instead

For what you're doing you might be better served by a 5830K hexacore. Hopefully you can get it from a Micro Center where they go for $300.

Not to mention DDR4.

In retrospect, I wish I got a 5830 myself. Too expensive earlier this year though. Now's the time for it though.

well now im running into issues of my monitors going black but my computer staying on and programs staying active on it. Started happening when Battlefront came out. My monitors are about 3-4 years old though (at best, maybe even 5) :francis: but now its happening when playing guild wars 2 (for the first time last night)

if 1 monitor had a failed link to the GPU, would it turn off both monitors ? I ran prime95 last night ,everything is fine with my cpu/memory now I got gpu-z open now while im playing games to monitor temp and load etc

with guild wars 2 open (on max settings)

my GPU is at 71c temp (got to 80-81 last night, when the monitor issue started happening. That should be fine, long as its not over 90)

my load right now is going from 78%-93%.. last night it was constantly around 96-98% (after being on for the whole day)

so I dont think its the GPU
