I have a gtx 660. And I'm lazy, don't want to start from scratch.

Been googling all morning and it seems these cheap HP and Dells are purposely made difficult to upgrade.

The HP I had is perfect for upgrading, I would just buy the same one, but I can't find it anywhere.

I might just have to bite the bullet and spend $200 on the replacement motherboard.

If you have to do that you might as well spend the money on cheaper parts that aren't proprietary.

Had the 780 for 3 years...

Thought their warranty only lasts a year...

Probably just going to cop a 1070 from microcenter...

Typical warranty period is 3 years and some even have limited lifetime warranties. If I were you I'd call the manufacturer and try to RMA. I have had great RMA experiences with EVGA and Zotac. EVGA may even toss you a 980 or something if they don't have any 780's laying around. Hopefully you have an EVGA card.

Yeah, but then I'll have to buy a copy of Windows. It would come out more expensive in the long run

$30....

We have an expert here.

edit:
I just did a Google search and it looks like EVGA was giving 3 year warranties on some variants of the 780. Right on the bottom of this link.

EVGA - Product Specs - EVGA GeForce GTX 780

I've RMA'd way more than my fair share of cards and shyt. They sound very reasonable. I've had to provide videos and pics before nvidia would RMA my shyt (I've RMA'd 3 cards from them). I hope it all works out well. I'm surprised at how easy it was for you. Normally, RMAing shyt takes a week or two. Here's to you getting what you wnat

My EVGA replacement is on its way, but it's another 960. (Cheap b*stards.) What pisses me off is that the warranty doesn't "reset," if that makes any sense. So I have a completely different card, but only a year and a half warranty.

ASRock, on the other hand, apparently only has a one-year warranty, not a three-year. Not sure if I'm going to bother. 970 Extreme4, they want $50 plus shipping. Thoughts, brehs? I'll probably keep it as a backup, because I never want to go through this ever again. (On the other hand, why not put that to a different mobo w/an actual warranty?)

Disregard! My old ASUS is still under warranty. (How the fukk I bricked two mobos, I have no idea. I know how I fukked up the ASRock - lack of patience on the BIOS upgrade - but I'll never figure out WTF went wrong with the ASUS board.)

*edit the second* Or maybe not. It's not reading my serial number...I have a feeling that means it's out of warranty. *bawls* Why, oh why, can't it at LEAST get to the fukking BIOS screen!?

EVGA is the best with warranties. You might get asked to provide pictures, but I doubt it as you are likely not flagged in the system...sounds like you never went through the process or at least not often enough to trigger a note written.

I am sure @Ciggavelli was at this point. They keep track of all returns on high end hardware.
