Makes sense, and I'll admit, I had a sense about that too.

A childhood friend of mine is a doctor, and he is always telling me stories about how patients tell him one thing, but their bloodwork always shows something else. So, yeah, I'm very aware of them having to test anyway, just in case the patient is lying.

I think my beef with this lady was that she was that, as soon as she saw me, she was going to test my ass for an STD anyway, no matter what I said. I still do not know what it is she 'saw' when she examined me that just made her think it was an STD. It would have been one thing if she said, "Ok, this is a routine test we give all pregnant mommies to ensure your health and the baby's". That, I can get with. She was a dog with a bone, though, lol. Literally telling her everything that had happened in my pregnancy up until that very point didn't make any difference. I said, "I think I may have strained my bladder", and her mindset was still, you may have an STD. (Sigh) I get annoyed thinking about it now, lol.

My midwife was a West Indian woman who is well known throughout this city; if you are a lay midwife here, she probably trained you. I knew I was in good hands with her, and that was the only reason I didn't succumb to stress or fear after dealing with this doctor. My husband and I both spent the entire pregnancy building a relationship with her. I truly wish other women could have the same report with their own doctors during pregnancy. It would eliminate at least that aspect of the stress that comes along with having a baby.
Yeah I totally understand where you're coming from. How she went about servicing you was unprofessional. It just showcases the cultural barriers and biases which exist in the healthcare field. What's troublesome is for the individuals who don't have as thick of skin as you, and have / had to deal with someone like that.

That was a smart move thinking well ahead to get a trusted midway.

Best believe I would be calling for someone's head, if they did this to my child while my back was turned:
‘Mini Satans’: Why is this ‘navy nurse’ giving a newborn baby the middle finger?

God bless those poor mil spouses. The nurses thought this was appropriate? God know what they did off camera. So glad my future children will be born at home.

I didn't know until very recently that a woman who wants to conceive should start taking folic acid and vitamin D before she gets pregnant and all through the first three months.

Side note:
Also a lack of vitamin D during pregnancy has been linked to autism.

life is crazy. im pretty sure my sister hasnt' taken a prenatal vitamin in her life yet spit out 3 perfectly healthy kids. :mindblown:

she was also young tho when she started (20ish)

Our mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers probably never took them either so suppose it's all relative.

Out of curiosity, does your sister eat healthily and live somewhere with lots of sunshine or was she pregnant during summer?

she doesn't eat healthily, is on and off bipolar medication when she's not pregnant, and was on the run from the law for 2 of her 4 pregnancies. She literally did everything you're not supposed to do while pregnant minus do drugs/alcohol. :wow:

Tbf his statement is anecdotal. About 90% of black women get pregnant and have children without a problem. It's that 10% of black women have fertility problems. Which in comparison with other racial demographics is significantly higher.

cuz back then they ate alotta high folate foods.... folic acid is synthetic form of folate

and they actually got adequate sunlight exposure for the vitamin d.... that aint happening no more...

after world war 2 the mineral deficiency in the soil got worse which meant less nutrition

and black folk started moving into white collar jobs... which meant u sitting indoors all day out of the sun...

black women got the highest sunlight requirement per day but get the least... thats a huge problem just for basic health, forget about pregnancies...

the society kinda got us living like cavemen... cuz when u get up for work/school early in the morning, the sun aint out yet..

and when u get off at 5, the sun is already gone... if u black in the northeast its rough :francis:

all this is the cost of not having our own resources as black folks.. we rely on other groups for everything...

cuz if we actually had a national black media an issue this serious would never get ignored... it wouldnt be a "quiet" crisis

and black folks would have our own medical blood test ranges

when the ranges used in the medical industry is based on white folks requirements... and we need more of certain things like and sunlight and iron

then we gonna be alot more prone to iron and sunlight deficiency illnesses...

one of em is anemia... if u always feeling cold even when its hot outside, low energy.... then u might wanna get a CBC blood test

if ur anemic u gotta drink a herbal tea high in iron like nettle leaf or red clover everyday for 3-4 months...

we gotta be aware of all this, cuz the white supremacists in healthcare dont give a fukk bout us... :francis:

they doing everything they can to lower the black population worldwide.. from forced sterilization shots to unapproved hysterectomies to poisoning the water in black cities

I know two black women who just this year had some pretty serious miscarriages.... one almost died and she is a doctor :mjcry:

WTF is going on
Stress, access to healthcare and designed genocide...
The video i posted above thinks it's societal stress from racism.....

Makes no sense otherwise why we see middle class and professional black women who are responsibly educated being affected by this trend...
