North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
And the thread starters are usually outsiders who have never been here a day in their life. Lol.

At the end of the day, its about making music and being inspired to create. There is NO creative vibe in the tri-state area. I lived in cali and north jersey for almost a decade each (been to ny plenty of times) and you just can't compare the two. Even back in 98, 99 artists from NY would go out to cali to make records. The hip hop scene, the vibe its just different. Maybe its because its soo far away to be influenced by other area's. NY is definately in the shadow of southern hip hop because its right there. So many NY transplants in VA, GA, FL, nikkas done lost thier way.

What new producers are making records that are from NY right now? Dr Dre's impact is still felt in Cali but Premo, Pete Rock.. they don't get no love from up and coming artists because their sound their style never evolved.

that too will start to change i think. right now many Ghanians and Nigerians are moving to Texas and South Florida has comparable demographics and numbers to the NY Tri State as far Caribbean people go. there's already a trend of Caribbean Americans from NY and NJ moving to Carolina, Central Florida, Atlanta, or Texas.

:yeshrug:

i know when my youngest brother is done with school, my parents will go to one of those locations

I see that as well. Southern hip hop will stay, but the kind of music will change IMO. Trap music will be in the underground again and more types like KRIT and J Cole will soon be the main sellers when they get their sound and lyrics completely correct.

i don't see any valid points.

as far as gentrification goes & ny losing it's hoods. the bronx alone has like 1 and a half million people and 95% of them are in the hood, it's officially the poorest district in the entire country. the bronx alone has a larger talent pool to chose from than atlanta & la hoods combined.

the things you talking about might happen one day in NY in 50 years is already a reality in LA. Damn near all the LA hoods are outside of the city & those are being taken over by hispanics.

The black exodus argument is again stupid because NY still has like 10x as many black people as Atlanta. & with whatever exodus there is its nothing compared to LA, plus unlike LA black immigrants arrive here everyday.

Stop listening to free radio and get that satellite shyt. You'll hear some raw, gutta, NY shyt! They're killing the underground right now, got all kinds of groups new and old droppin shyt AND it has that NY feel to it.

Yeah the mystique of NY is gone but the main issue is this:

It's Southern CULTURE that is running things right now. In order to have the top spot your regions culture has to be the one the media is pushing.

When NY ran things back in the 80's, everyone was on their fly and slang culture. Then in 92 when Dre dropped Chronic and movies like Menace II Society were the hotness, you notice hip hop was run by the WC?

If you notice, the dominant culture now is Dirty South. Our slang, our habits, everything. Tho nikkas try and add their own twist, its still southern.

So until a region jacks the dominating culture from the south we'll be driving this shyt. And yeah Jigga is the pinnacle but make no mistake he does just enough to kiss the souths ass just like every other relevant rapper.

NYers lost they swag when they stopped hating! That's what NY was all about...hating on nikkas, calling them wack, then killing them with lyrics. I don't see that same fire from this generation of NY.

Instead of leaning and poppin wit what's out they supposed to be styling on us and calling us bammas while laughing the loudest!

You can see it on the boards here, nikkas from NY giving props to Gucci, Jeezy and some other cats. A real NYer rather stab their own eye out than admit them bammas can rap.

Watching that Dame Dash interview jus gave me a ephianany.

Its not that NY dont got the talent. Its that NY needs more moguls. We need the new Diddy's , Dame Dashes, Andre Harrel's, Russel Simmons, Irv Gotti's, etc.

the internet
Anyone that doesnt see where the OP is coming from is lost in denial.
The point dude was making is 100% true.

Are you all old enough to remember the mid 90's? NY rappers were recognizable from a mile away. Im not just talking about the music, but the way they talked and dressed (I thought I was the shyt when I finally got a Avirex Leather).
but now the cats coming up now are straight off the internet. People keep saying ASAP is a good example of an NYC rapper, but thats crazy!! You can tell dude came up off the internet, no way in hell he earned stripes rapping outside.

The only thing NYC can do now is rep the hipster rappers hard (already happening) because NYC is one of the hot points in the middle class 20 something community.

I think NYC been threw that drought is because that great rappers in NY are all getting older" Nas, Jay, Busta, 50, DMX" and the new ones aren't really all that good "Maino, Mims, Papoose, Max B, Fred the Godson"....until now tho :lawd:

shyt happens. That shyt happen to L.A. from 1997-2004 where it was just Snoop and Dre together keeping the west relevant.
