Invading Ukraine is one thing. Occupying the country is a different ball game. Russia will have to deal with a long and drawn out insurgency. It will be costly and bloody. There may soon be terrorist attacks within Russia as well.

Every country in the world is seeking more resources (Land) and influence. So I'm having a hard time understanding the significance of someone mentioning that Russia is looking to reform the Soviet Union.
1. not every country is looking for more land and influence
2. Russia is going specifically after former soviet states in a method that undermines their independence.... stop being dense

You must be young and don't remember why Americans felt threatened by the USSR. A modern soviet union would be nothing like the USSR of the past, so it's important to state why it would be a threat given that historical model doesn't apply.
By the way, Russia is world's largest country my land mass, yet half the population of the US, so it doesn't actually have a need for more land. Russia wants more resources, like Ukraine grain and fertilizer production, not the actual land mass. With that distinction made, every country is jockeying for more resources and influence.
1. i dont know what the level of "threat" has to do with Russia's intentions... I never commented on how bad it would be if Russia pulled former soviet states into their direct influence. I merely stated the fact that Russia saw it as a goal...
2. Russia wanting more resources and influence by pulling countries back into their direct influence is the whole point. Trying to get technical about "land" and "resources" sounds like you're just trying to find a way out from looking dumb
