Why do people really think the government has plans in place that allow for its own dismissal?

With the kind of government we have nowadays, the second amendment is more relevant than it probably has ever been. This country is getting so tyrannical that I believe there will soon be a day where growing your own food will be considered to be as criminal as robbery. When that day comes, I hope WE ALL have guns. . . Big powerful guns.

With the kind of government we have nowadays, the second amendment is more relevant than it probably has ever been.

And with the kind of technology and military power the government has nowadays, the 2nd amendment is probably less relevant than ever. Thinking from a brutally realistic standpoint, I don't see how an armed militia now could have a fraction of the power one could have at the time when the Constitution was written, when it was a real threat.

Not saying people shouldn't have the right to own guns or anything like that, just that I can't think of a modern situation in which such a militia would have a chance against the government unless the revolt was nation-wide.

It can be done. That technology and military power of the government you speak of has to ultimately be yielded by citizens at the end of the day. Those people defect at times (as evidenced by current conflicts). There is also the chance that the military joins the side of the people. As we move more towards robotics, I would tend to agree with you though. But I do think an armed resistance can be successful though (not likely but possible).

Either way, I'm a gun dude but the bullet is no longer the great equalizer. The internet and computers are. A competent person using a computer and the internet would be worth a thousand (or more) guns.

We actually saw the power of the second amendment in the Cliven Bundy standoff. It works. We literally saw scared Federal agents backing down to armed citizenry. And, yes the government has tanks, missles, nukes etc. but the truth is that in a civil war against the government many of those same weapons would end up the hands of regular citizens due to the many defections on the military side.

Guns are important because it's defense against tyranny at a moments notice. Sure, not nearly as effective as the missiles and tanks the government has, but it makes being truly tyrannical ALOT harder.

the vast majority of gun crimes are committed using illegally obtained weapons. The vast majority of people killed by guns are young black males.

That's what we need to be talking about in America. Not whether or not a militia can take over the government.

The government is already rolling out with power-armor, auto-aiming rifles and HUD helmets. Ten years from now, an armed solder could probably take on 10+ enemies equipped with 20th century armaments. An armed resistance without military defectors will be impossible to win.
