Whoa. The tension actually came from the west coast rappers in their feelings a little bit because east coast rappers didn’t respect them as lyricists, which was true.

No.

The “tension” came from “Fucc Compton”.

And Tim Dog, on the books, said he made that record because the West was blowing up
so much that when he met with a record executive about being signed, the exec asked if
he would consider growing a Jheri Curl.

And the record only came out because he found another record company exec who
didn’t care for the West takeover and pushed it.

And, this was the record that (multiple) rappers responded to.

right....most folks don't know this at all and it's obvious reading this thread that they don't know....most don't know the TURN THIS MUTHA OUT video/song was also sneak disses at NYC. Hammer wanted all the East Coast smoke back then.

That's a major reason Suge signed him to Death Row b/c Hammer was riding on the east coast before it became popular

Sorry to disappoint you but no, the tension was already there. East Coast rappers did not respect West Coast rappers. I mean who was their biggest rapper at the time? Eazy E? Ummm, not a lyrical giant by any stretch of the imagination. Tim Dog was a nobody. Never heard of him before that song, never heard from him after. Sure it threw a little fuel on the fire, but no thats not what started it. And the West was rising, but this wasn't The Chronic/Doggystyle era yet. Id you're gonna make that argument you gotta at least start there. NWA was over almost as soon as they blew. This tension started in the 80's. I know, I grew up in Brooklyn and laughing at West Coast MC's at the time was commonplace.

Tupac getting shot and saying fukk many artists and n the East Coast is what started the beef. It wasn’t one specific song.

facts. but remember, and no hate, but on the coli you're dealing mainly with young old heads who don't really delve into pre-1992 hip hop like that. most old head nikkas on here are about joe budden 1980 to kendrick 1987 so all of that eludes them. not their fault, they were just too little at the time

hammer came out swinging against the east coast before any new york nikka uttered a word about jheri curls, simple simon lyrics, or constantly rhyming over funky worm samples

Above the fray.
I'm 2nd to none over Dougie Fresh, Cool J and DJ Run

I caught and was alarmed at LL saying Run's name on his early records.
Outside of Melle Mel, I have a hard time recalling a rapper directly calling out RunDmc on records, but rappers aired each other out all the time.

Hammer having the audacity to diss RunDmc raised eyebrows, but the resentment for Hammer only came when he blew up on the charts with no rap skills and being a dancer first.

But you’re nobody. Nobody knew you, or cared who you were or what you did. You didn’t rap.
Wtf are you talking about fool? I’m talking about NYC as a whole. What kinda weirdo are you? If you don’t have anything intelligent to say just shut the fukk up and keep it moving.

Them Lo Lifes...
Bozo ..... the title was .... wat songs not what incidents .... every song I mentioned had some role minor or not minor in the so called east vs west ... facts!!
The fact of the matter, is the term was coined to refer the shyt around badboy and deathrow, which is more than just pitting songs against one another.

If Big never called the radio, the trailer wouldn't have got shot up, there would be no resentment twords nyc, thus because of and the song will hold it's original merit of them saying they where payng homage.

Therefore Prodigy and Nore wouldn't have responded.

Kapeesh!?

You're mad at the video, not the song.

But you dont wanna see that part, tho.

you're giving me the beginning of turn this mutha out (great record)

what we're talking about is the older record that preceded the creation of mutha, and that is let's get it started with the hood video. hammer called out doug e. fresh, run from run dmc, and LL Cool J specifically. now are we saying that perhaps hammer had run-ins with those three rappers specifically who displayed their east coast bias and he was getting his revenge lyrically?
