Yeah, because Tim Dog was just running hip hop right? Not Rakim, Kane, KRS, Slick Rick, LL. No it was Tim Dog. Everybody knew him from all those hits. Here I was thinking I grew up in Fort Greene. Apparently not, since I was not up on the well known Tim Dog.

Niqqa shut the fukk up.
You know about Ultra, but never heard of Tim Dogg prior to Fukk Comptn.. :russ:

Has nothing to do with running hip hop, but having ya ear to the street, which YOU obviously didn't, Mr Fort Greene:stopitslime:

The "East/West Coast Rivalry" should be called "The West Coast's hatred of New York", lol. Nobody over here was on that type time with them, even Biggie was tryna let that shyt fizzle out and ignore it initially.

Cali is gangland, it's all about "Where you from??" out there, this "rivalry" just expanded that way of thinking with them guys. I never in my life heard somebody from over here say "fukk the west coast" or anything like that,, shyt even feels corny typing it.

all that is bullshyt ..... what kicked it off if you going to go by songs strictly was .... Newyork newyork by snoop and doggpound , la la by mob deep n nore n them , who shot ya by biggie then offshoot I shot ya then last but not least pacs hit em up and drop a gem on em by mob deep .... these are all the songs that in some way shape or form was directly or indirectly linked to the east vs west beef .....
yeah, all those other songs and lines people are quoting are small potatoes...I don't think the average rap fan or the media caught on to any tension until Dogg Pound really put it out there with the New York, New York song and video...then it kind of exploded with all the other stuff with Pac and Biggie...

I was a teen back then and listened and bought and watched a lot of this stuff...and I don't remember Tim Dog/Dr Dre beef brining coasts against one another....people didn't jump behind tim dog behind that...it didn't pit coast vs coast...as a matter of fact everyone that I knew on the EC loved songs like Dre De and could quoted it word for word

But all that stuff with Pac and mobb Deep..and death row and bad boy kind of all started with the song NY, NY

my cousin (who claims i'm an east coast benedict arnold lol) always brings up this hammer line from let's get it started. like see, the west coast nikkas started dissing first bro. this was 1988 and mc hammer was sending shots at legends for no reason! hard to deny, mc hammer of all people was the first to name names on some coastal shyt. guess he was like fukk them nikkas gonna do about it, hammer was with the shyts as 3rd bass quickly found out lol
It’s ironic a pop rapper threw the first shots in the coastal rivalry :ohhh:

This is actually a really good question. I can’t name one specific song that I would say SET IT OFF. More a combination of subliminals to go with a few moments outside of the music. But I think New York’s jealousy/snobbery towards the west and looking down on them and the west getting tired of it was a big factor. Pac. Death row bad boy just fuelled the fire
