Steam made their system base of the average specs of their users. This device will sell like hot cakes because majority of their user base use similar specs. They are smart.

If their customer base is poor enough that this is their level of base system specs on average... where's the demand to shell out presumably over half a grand+ after taxes, in this economy no less, for this thing going to come from? Steamdeck sold cause it's a true "handheld" portable device that does something their PCs can't.... what's the purpose/market for this thing supposed to be? Some unheard demographic of millions of 16 year olds who are DYING to play Counterstrike on their living room TV instead of their already existing multi-monitor setup? Just so they can get lit up in-game trying to use that donkey ass controller vs. a sweaty mouse and keyboard player? :pachaha:If this was like ~$450 MAX, maybe with Half-Life Alyx packaged in as a "launch title" bundled with the VR headset for this holiday I could see it being tempting for the console-only crowd who can't afford/can't be bothered to look into building even a barebones setup and want access to anything that can run Steam's library. But this thing's probably going to cost more than the base PS5/series X.... while being a weaker system, and coming in after the Switch 2 has finally started to fill out it's library with real hitters like Metroid Prime 4. Half Life 3 better be real and NOT coming to any other console/storefront outside of Steam if that's the case... :francis:

Yeah it's weird seeing the PC guys go to war. But there's a lot of pump faking with that crowd. They're always saying how they're rigs are running 4k/120fps but the steam survey says otherwise. It's going to be funny if this machine is under $700. Because then you'll have all the videos of people that swear they can build a better system at a cheaper price :mjlol:

You right but those guys are pc extremism and dont represent 95 percent of the PC community. PC guys care about FPS screen aspects etc.. 4K got popular with consoles.

At least a high spec box you buy it and it's good for many years. If this is a low tier PC upon release in just a few years it will probably struggle to run high end games well. If you want a simple plug and play product Sony has a better product for you as well as Nintendo.

What mainstream games are gamers going to play on a PC that aren't available on a console that don't require a mouse and keyboard?

It just feels like they're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist with such a lower end device. Consoles and PCs share many games and if you want to game on a TV with a standardized box and not have to tinker that product already exist.

:russ:Because PC has ALL the games, except new Nintendo. Everything is on PC, going back to the Genesis and Nintendo days.

You can tell Phil and Gabe are homies. They consistently promote and big each other up. They really don't step on each others toes like talking about. This system lets valve start to dip the hands in more of the hardware space with VR and other PC and console hybrid hardware peripherals that they already have the data on for usage. Tbh they make a bigger or as big a deal of the controller as the do the machine almost.

People just see oh a PC console and think "Xbox in trouble" but history has shown that if Xbox does something 1st people are resistant to adopt, the steam machine dropping now is probably the best thing that could happen adoption wise for Xbox hardware as this thread clearly shows... All of a sudden a box with multiple storefronts is :blessed:

The steam machine is a custom built PC gaming console. The market for this not the same as folks that just want games to run pre cooked aka optimized. The PC gaming folks that want a dedicated piece of hardware I can promise already have a PC hooked up to their TV. If this would have been a HIGH end steam machine console... Then yeah maybe MS should be sweating a bit, but as it stands if anyone should be worried it should be PlayStation, well more so Sony stans. A steam machine kinda flies in the face of the point of having a gaming PC🤔 why limit yourself.

But if it does make sense, then maybe you can understand why being able to play games from multiple storefronts from one console is so attractive.:manny:

I'm not questioning PC gaming. I'm questioning mid to lower spec PC gaming that tries to mimic a console.

The only real advantage I see is it's a small cube. They're inventing the wheel when it already exist. If you want a console experience on your living room TV it already exist.

You're giving up the majority of the advantages of PC gaming and taking on the disadvantages of a console. At least when a console comes out it's typically pretty solid power wise. This thing is already coming in mid pack at best and age won't be kind to it.
