i've recently come to a realization: I hate G-Funk
my favorite westcoast artists of the 90's and beyond are the ones who escaped that sound (pharcyde, souls of mischief, etc). I've been on my horrorcore steez lately and checked out a supposed classic in the genre--seasons of da siccness by brotha lynch hung--and its dripping with that 90's westcoast g-funk bullshyt. after not feelin a few songs and tryna give it a chance, I was just like 'man I don't wanna hear this shyt'
and threw it in the bushes. when you're stuck with a regional sound like that you tend to date yourself. even in '95 when it came out it must've sounded dated..
even though NYC hip hop scene had its own trappings (boom rap), I feel there was more diversity and experimentation..
