i've recently come to a realization: I hate G-Funk

my favorite westcoast artists of the 90's and beyond are the ones who escaped that sound (pharcyde, souls of mischief, etc). I've been on my horrorcore steez lately and checked out a supposed classic in the genre--seasons of da siccness by brotha lynch hung--and its dripping with that 90's westcoast g-funk bullshyt. after not feelin a few songs and tryna give it a chance, I was just like 'man I don't wanna hear this shyt' :childplease: and threw it in the bushes. when you're stuck with a regional sound like that you tend to date yourself. even in '95 when it came out it must've sounded dated..

even though NYC hip hop scene had its own trappings (boom rap), I feel there was more diversity and experimentation..

:what:

G Funk died in the 90's, and stayed there.... and it started in 95? :what:

by 95-96, G Funk was dying down...and by 98 or so, it was already gone.

There was far more diverisity in West Coast rap.

Xzibit,Suga Free,WC,Warren G, DJ Quik,Too Short,e 40,even fukking Kurupt..all sounded completely different.

i'm negging you on site for this bullshyt... fukk you, your thread and everything you stand for.

do you have severe reading comprehension or something? I said seasons of da siccness came out in '95 and by then G-Funk was a tired sub-genre so the album was already dated on release

you are a dumb motherfukker

You missed out, West Coast shyt in general was major in the 90s. G-Funk, P-Funk, Mobb Music, that bluesy sound CMW had, so many different sounds. If you take it in context G-Funk was great.

you had Soul On Ice,Safe and Sound,Season Of Tha Siccness,Bow Down,Getting It,Hall Of Game,Gangstas Paradise,All Eyez On Me, At The Speed OF Life and Labcanincalifornia.

none of them albums sound the same.... G Funk wasn't something everybody did for the entire 90's

By then, G Funk was already on it's way out.. in all reality, G Funk was only 92-96.

and no, season of the siccness was fire, cause it was still G Funk, but on some demonic twisted shyt.

you don't like G Funk, leave it at that... it wasn't dated, nor was it tired.

fukk outta here fakkit.

I don't care for arguing with you since you've already proven yourself to be a mental midget

I like some westcoast shyt..I've already namedropped pharcyde and souls of mischief. I like them because they don't sound like typical westcoast groups. they have a global sound. soul on ice was my shyt too. doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of westcoast artists of that time were on that G-Funk shyt, tryna get paid because it was popular at the time.

the 'westcoast sound' became a parody of itself, and I felt seasons of da sickness was a good example of that

stop making up shyt... you like them, cause you like East Coast sounding shyt... not cause they don't sound like west coast groups.

i listed 10 albums that came out around the same time that sound completely different... but according to you, the majority of west coast rappers were doing G Funk, trying to get paid

If Season of the Siccness is a good example of the "west coast" sound being a "parody" of itself, why is it held in such high regard?

you acting like Champ MC didn't make keep it on the real...THAT was a parody of the west coast sound.

A decade ago, it was easily the East Coast. Cats were stuck in that try'na sound like Premo and Pete Rock shyt. I think stagnant production has hurt a lot of cats that used to be greats, especially dudes like LOX. All their joints sound stale as fukk now.

I think the "trap" shyt has really killed the quality of South music. I miss that old Dungeon Family innovation. Dudes used to really go in. Suave House and Rap-a-Lot used to have producers who were creating whole new sounds. Now everybody's stuck on that one sound, shyt's wack.

Man what Midwest and East Coast cats don't understand is that if you grew up in the 90's on West Coast music, there used to be nothing more refreshing than twisting those two fingers and throwing up that W like your depended on it.

The reason why the east doesn't like our music is because they've never been forced to listen to it, but if you notice the Midwest and even the south are highly influenced by the west. EVERY region talks about pimping hoes except for the East. It's sad because the so called "representitives" of hip hop are truly a representation of American culture. Close minded.

The Forest Where Hope Died
In reality 90s g funk is still pretty big around the world..the music died but peeps from Japan and all across europe are super digging for old g funk records and paying top dollar..other counties know more about g funk than Americans because they're super Stans and dig for obscure records that we've never heard..

All those 90s g funk rappers are still eating and doing shows in other countries based of this..
