Asians also see education also as a way to integrate into US society, besides getting a job with good salary. That extends beyond one or two generations, since their numbers are still small population-wise.
African-Americans don't have the same view, since we've been here for centuries anyway... We're not immigrants trying to fit in. If anything, education is a way to beat the low expectations Amerikkka has for us (then getting a good job/money).
Asians sure found a nice niche: They're the best educated group in the US by far and have the highest median incomes (higher than whites).
The funny part is that they voted for Obama at a higher rate than latinos in 2012 (yet, republicans keep saying that minorities vote democratic because of "handouts")

It is misleading and inaccurate to lump all Asian-Americans together considering the vastly different rates of poverty in different ethnic communities (economic outcomes are very different for Cambodians compared to Koreans, for example).

Insightful article though. In general, the U.S.tries to cherry-pick the most educated people from abroad; it's not an equal opportunity thing for those emigrants leaving their countries. The only group the floodgates were open for were cacs, of course (and Latin Americans are brought in as per the needs of capital but simultaneously demonized)

Of course, size is important. If we could find a few college educated immigrants from Palau or Tuvalu, would say with a straight face that "Palauans and Tuvaluans are the most educated immigrants in the US"?

Size does not matter when their are more than enough to come to a conclusion.

if you have 10,000 nigerian students. thats more than enough to form an opinion on how well they do when they immigrate to the states and hit the books vs other immigrants. now as i've stated before, if you want to dig deep enough its not an apples to apples comparison usually. unless you run the numbers based off the exact same TYPE of kids with the same TYPES of families, Similar Types of Financial stability or lack thereof in all of these immigrants. But they have not done that for asians vs americans. So why does the other poster have to do that when its africans vs other immigrants?
