UBI is another harebrained scheme cooked up to keep people with instagram accounts happy.

Too much pocket watching.

You will point to certain governments experimenting with it, to which I'll tell you that I don' believe it will change anything.

What good is everyone getting the same amount anymore and expecting prices to stay the same?

UBI with price caps on living essentials.

Raising minimum wage will not increase the quality of life for those earning it.

The price of everything just goes up. Rent goes up, property value goes up... and nobody is better off.

So you're saying cost of living hasn't gone up a red cent since the last federal minimum wage hike? :ohhh:

Actually, theres no evidence this occurs.

Thus, wage stagnation.

This is the key point you keep missing.

Wage stagnation has affected people who you would deem middle class, who CLEARLY aren't making minimum wage.

Your desire to focus on the absolute floor of compensation ignores the real problem with people who make middle class wages who aren't seeing increasing income.

Actually, here's the evidence right here.

Given the Economy’s Growth, the Federal Minimum Wage Could Be Significantly Higher

Average wages climbing faster than minimum wage, but nowhere near keeping up with GDP. "Climbing" might be too strong a word...
[The $10.91 points to what minimum wage would be if it kept up with median wage growth.]

So you're just gonna write it off before you even get to see results, huh?

You show a lot of vigor when it comes to shooting down solutions others have proposed here, mind if I ask whether you have your own?

Yes, let us keep wages exactly the same, else prices on goods and services rise. It's a good thing Gas is still $.78 a gallon and a movie ticket is $4. Disco is all the rage and these new fangled cassette tapes are the wave of the fuuuuutuuuuure. :blessed:

*whispering* What... whats that? Wages haven't actually risen since 1973? Despite the cost of living almost doubling and income becoming more concentrated? You mean... you mean wages haven't gone up or compensated or adjusted for increases in costs of living and yet the cost of goods and services... continues to rise? :dwillhuh:

Gee wiz it's almost like we need to raise the average minimum wage point and adjust from there.

A huge corporation like Wal-mart can afford to raise the wages of all it's employees without going under, but a small business owner may not have that same luxury. By forcing a small business owner to pay $15 dollars an hour, you are putting them at a severe disadvantage. A kid working behind a desk as a cashier does not need to be paid $15 an hour.

In fact I could see teenagers having a lot of difficulty entering the workforce now, even entry level jobs. Now that they are paying 15 dollars an hour why would anyone hire someone with zero work experience?
