I take issue with the title and premise of this article.
I don't draw the same conclusion from the set of statistics offered.

But the first paragraph, doe...

Shantavia Jackson signed her three sons up for football to keep them out of trouble. As a single mother who works the night shift at a Home Depot warehouse 50 minutes away from her house, Jackson relies on the sport to shield the boys from gang activity in her rural Georgia county. They began in a local league five years ago when they were still little, their helmets like bobbleheads on their shoulders. Now 11, 12, and 14, they play in games across the region. Jackson says she passed up a daytime shift at Home Depot so that she can drive them to games and cheer them on. [

If its a good article why are you copy pasting the whole thing dog? Let em get some clicks. Brehs will take over college baseball and lacrosse if we shifted focus

She doesnt even have a GED herself? What could she help him with it.

You bring up an interesting point, because younger generations might not know that African Americans completely dominated major league baseball up until the 1980s, which is about the time that the NFL and NBA blew up. For some reason African Americans just walked away from baseball and concentrated only on basketball and football, but before then the best baseball players came off of the football fields.

I don't doubt that sports teaches you important life lessons. But are we really going to argue that football teaches you lessons that no other sport could teach? What good is everything you're learning when you're damaging your developing brain? I'm sure there are other lessons they could be learning that would help them like how to study so they can succeed academically.

Finally, there are studies to support the conclusions drawn in the article but anyone with even a cursory knowledge of human development understands that it's not a good idea for children to be consistently knocked in the head.

Just reading through this thread is another reminder that most of ya'll coli nikkas never touched a ball or saw a field in your entire lives :hhh:

The way ya'll talk about sports is comical, if i'm being generous

I swear I love football, flag, tackle, video games, as a spectator, the wealth it creates for it's players............................but cotdamn, it's a brutal fuucking sport.

To think this is when we have real protective gear, back when it first started it was just what Kenny Washington was wearing, the first black person to integrate the NFL..

With a name like Marqwayvian, I certainly hope he has a great career in professional football. We all know how employers are on that :mjpls: when it comes to hiring people with "Black names"...

I’m very confused. Not that it’s easy but why not put your focus and energy on the kids education?

Any idiot can drive their kids to practice/games. Far fewer can help their kids with algebra homework or afford a tutor.
