Come on breh. Networking matters if the person you're networking with is black. There's a reason why having a black sounding name makes you 50% LESS likely to receive a call back on your resume.

Our number one problem in this country has always been racism. Like I said, this isn't the first time we've been at this exact same cross roads. 20 years from now, black women will still be at the bottom of every socio-economic indicator in this country.
Literally not true. Networking matters across the board. Not denying the issue with black sounding names, but the point is that if you have solid recommendations you're better off than having nothing.

You didn't address the rest of my post, and it seems clear we're looking at this in vastly different ways. This cannot be simplified to some "whites don't hire blacks" shyt across the board. Black IT professionals are on record noting the lack of networking hurting black candidates - we just had a thread about that. White women face a similar problem in tech fields. I see it every day in my field (finance). For whatever reason a lot of minorities come out of college with limited networking webs.

At the end of the day all you can do is best prepare yourself for success. Blaming other people doesn't get you far, especially if you throw your hands up and say "oh well there's nothing I can do." YES racism is a factor, as is sexism for women. I continue to see every day that the best way to get a job is to have a resume that demonstrates you know your shyt, and know the right people.

nah, i don't agree with the argument black women are devalued simply because of rap music and tv. that's some simplistic shyt that doesn't go into the real reason women are valued by their men.
I am far from a black heritage guru so I will leave the origin of this social issue in the black community to whomever that may be, but I would like to bring awareness to the media’s role in this matter as it continues to perpetuate this notion the worthless black woman.

that's what she's doing. now aside from talking about the media's role in perpetuating negative stereotypes of black women, let's look at her other points:

1. promotes natural hair
2. promotes submissive women
3. slams "bed wenches"
4. slams fake asses/titties
5. promotes humble, lowkey women who don't go to the club every night

she sounds like a fukkin coli poster lol. I don't even agree with everything she's saying just like I don't agree with everything ya'll say in here when it comes to that topic, but for some of ya'll to have a problem with her article based on the views ya'll have shared is ridiculous and a prime example of focusing on the messenger rather than the message

both are propaganda, one is negative, one is positive. :snoop: y'all so quick to believe your own hype, not realizing it bites you in the ass.

So do you just casually brush off facts you don't like as "propaganda" for everything? smh
:scust:

No most black women aren't making 6 figures. But they're getting their degrees, attending college, and starting businesses at impressive rates.

Just like how every black person is disrespected because they dare to think differently from the crowd.
I'm more black than you and that's a fact. I can trace my Ghanaian heritage to my great great great great grandfather.
Let's see you do the same :mjlol:

I know you are a troll and everything, but you should be permanently banned for this comment. Making light of the transatlantic slave trade, and rubbing its horrors in the face of American blacks is truly beyond the pale. Even a lot of racist whites wouldnt dare go this far. You're a fukked up person, and if I said right now what I truly think of you, it is I who would be banned 'cause I would go IN.

This is a black women's issue. You cannot ask an outside group to view you differently. You have to show something different. And that goes for any group of people. Black men have their own set of problems and the same goes for us too.

You can't blame Hip Hop for the portrayal of black women. Hip Hop is only narrates what it sees. Just like violence can't be blamed on Hip Hop. Hip Hop only tells the stories of violence that are seen everyday within the community.

If black women want that narrative to change, they must change it. It starts with the individual.

My father is a big tipper at restaurants. He told me that the stereotype is that black men don't tip well so he single-handedly set out to change that notion one server at a time. Let's be honest folks, these negative stereotypes began somewhere.

My sister was a waitress in college. She is a black woman. Her boss told her on her first day that black women were the worst customers. She told her that they would be the most demanding and the lousiest tippers. My sister couldn't ask her boss "Please stop saying those things about black women." No, black women need to change those perceptions through their actions. Just like black women can't say to Hip Hop, please don't portray us in such n such light. Instead they need to go to the worst of their group and smack em upside their heads and tell em to act right! They are embarrassing you.

When a child acts up in school, he embarrasses his parents, his family. But his mom can't go to the teachers lounge and ask the teachers to stop talking about how bad her son is. She needs to go to her son and smack him upside the head and tell him to act right!

This is blatant excuse making and blame deflecting. When we learn to take responsibilities for our actions, both individually AND collectively, only then will we begin to thrive as a people.

And I don't mean just black women because black men have our own issues that we need to address and and black people as a whole have issues to address as well. It's time to grow up and be adults. No more finger pointing.

the funny part is that doesn't make sense. :dead: fukked up how black women try to put their disdain towards their hair on us. knowing damn well its their momma and grandmommas fault.

It's sad that you can't accept the truth. I'm aware of my power.

Why do you always want credit for what we do? The movement started years ago, hun.

truth is the majority of you got your hair and scalp fukked up from your parents and grandparent, long before attraction to the opposite sex ever occurred. if there is an abundance of black males that dislike afro textured hair, they came from a black woman that disliked afro textured hair.

and , truthfully, there's not a lot of black men rejecting black women with long natural hair. its all these chicks that just did the big chop yesterday, talkin bout how we should be attracted to that style
